Best Candybar style GSM Phone?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Looking for a great candybar phone for GSM usage (north america), unlocked for around $300 or so.

Looking closely at the E51 from Nokia, but open to other suggestions.

Call quality, screen quality, bluetooth, and good signal are a must.

Thanks!

The E51 is a great option, I think you're on the right track there. Others to consider would the the N73 or N82, although it probably isn't below the $300 mark yet. Sony Ericsson is good, but unfortunately you either have to go with the K790a, which is a great phone but a bit aged, or you have to go for the K850i, which is, again, not below the $300 mark.

Blackberry Pearl if you want to go in a slightly different direction.

I'm not interested in a Blackberry, as I'm giving up my 8310 for a new phone. Call quality, signal, screen, etc. all pale in comparison to my old Nokia 6555, which is pretty sad if you ask me. Blackberrys need to do a lot of work on the "phone" side of their pda-phones.

E51 is your best choice

However a 2" screen is quite small, which is, to me, the E51's only weak point.

I have a couple of Blackberrys and have excellent phone quality. No problems with signal, dropped calls, etc. but to each his own. Left Nokia because of the extremely slow UI but I hear that the newer ones like the E51 are speedier.

The e51 is probably what you're going to (read should) settle with.

I'm a Candybar fan after many happy years with a 6360 and ended up going with the SDA when switching over to TMO.

The e61 came out shortly after and seemed to have most if not all of my needs but, for now, I save pop-tarts for breakfast.
Now we have the e51 available that sports all of the e61 but the big keyboard (I don't need it).

The SDA has been great for me thanks in part to members here and at XDA so if you're considering a dinosaur you could have yourself a lot of fun on the cheap.

And don't forget that the next best thing is around the corner.

Good luck with your search

The E51 is a great buy, especially for the price. If you want to spend a little more (about $200), the N82 gets you arguably the best cameraphone in the world.

I recommend E51 as well.

The E51 is one of the best candybar GSM phones I've used in quite a long time. So good that I bought my wife one (N82 for me)!
