ATT Beware

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have a Curve about 2 months old
The other day it would not charge so I took it to ATT Branded store and told them, they told me to call 18008011101, warranty exchange since it was over 30 days
I explain my situation and show the phone to the store manager
He notices one of the pins inside the charging slot on the phone is bent so he tells me to inform the agent on the phone
Which I do, after a lot of him and haw, she comes back to me and claims this is physical damage and not covered
Of course I spend a lot of time with a magnifying glass and a push pin inside that tiny slot to do that to my own 2 month old phone which is just a paper weight now
FYI=everyone, thats all

I dont understand.... You bent one of the pins, thereby voiding your warranty and you're mad at ATT?

He might have saved you some hassle, if you had sent the phone in and they had then found the damage you would get charged for the equipment.

Did att bend the pins? Did rim?
Then why should we be aware of att?

I can understand your frustration but how about some personal responsibility?

I knew where this was going as soon as I heard 'bent pins' haha

you probably should have known better than to take the reps advice and tell them of the bent pins. if you sent it in, they probably would have just replaced it without even noticing. they may have noticed but odds are, not likely.

Seriously just call in again and tell claim its DOA and don't mention the pins. Clearly it was a bad apple and that can happen with apple products, oh wait its a RIM product but it can happen too.

How is AT&T to blame? They don't make the phone.

Right, but they're the ones that called it physical damage. Pins can get bent really easily ... what happened is ridiculous.

They are required to provide support though.

Not to get into an argument but they are not required to provide any support outside of the network and applications. It used to be that any problems related to the physical device was referred directly to the manufacturer. They handle the devices now because its good customer service.

The device manufacturer is ultimately responsible for the equipment. In fact, you should try and contact RIM directly. They might be more willing to overlook the damage.

Thousands upon thousands of users have managed to use their blackberries for years, without bending the pins.
Your 'beware' is baseless, and your frustration is being vented in vain. You broke it. Not AT&T.
Name a carrier who would treat this situation differently.
