just cause you have a small app doesn't mean danger will accept it to give u a dev key an maken a app isnt as easy as 123 it takes time alot of time. why dnt you learn java an try to make a small app...how bout that

let me rephrase is there anyone that can refer me to get an dev key?

Posted by: reas0n555

Nope, you need to make an app game of some sort go to www.danger.com for more info. Nobody is gonna make you a free app so you'll get a key,I'd rather make one for myself so I can get a key.

you can do testin a dev will get you a key but knowin you ur just going to run off with it so tryn that way is going to be a lil hard unless u wanna learn something new an learn java write a simple app an bam dev key

What exactly is the significance of having a 'dev key?'
Someone please tell me.

Think of it as a jailbreaked iphone. You get to fiddle with the OS. Add your own ringtones, etc.

So why does the everyday "newbie" make a dev key thread asking how to obtain a dev key when they have no Java knowledge?

I understand some will say they want a dev key so they can unlock their devices. But how easy is it to unlock the device after getting a dev key?

Is there some sort of "Unlock" button after you receive a dev key from Danger that unlocks your phone?

I'm sure burner can go into more detail, but a developer's key is just that- it's a special code or software (i'm not sure) that allows you to tweak with the os. Like he said, ringtones, but you can make your own java apps and test them on the phone, and i'm sure there's alot more you can do with it as well. Unfortunately, to get a dev key, you have to create and submit a java app which then has to be approved, and you have to be very involved in the development of the kick. Seems like a lot of hassle for a few ringtones to me
As for "unlocking", I don't know. I think people misconstrue the use of the word.

She hit it basically on the nose. The dev key doesn't "unlock" it per se. Just opens up the OS so that you can add your own apps and ringtones. And most newbies aren't quite sure the meaning behind the dev key as they just wanna put their own rap ringtones on their kick, as if there isn't enough in the catalog. It's just people being cheap. In the days of the SK2 getting a dev key was easy. All you had to do was submit a form and you got one. Now you have to be highly involved and a decent software engineer.

ERM.

???

ERM? What's that?

Easy, for Canadian Hiptop2 owners, a dev key means being able to add Java programs into the device so we can actually use MSN, and not AIM lol.

Seriously, only Americans use AIM lol.
