The sidekick was the best phone I ever owned

I figure as I am moving into the apple forum more and more (dev work and just for fun), I wanted to say "goodbye" to the sidekick and remark on the impact it has had on me.

The sidekick was the first phone that ever made me feel like an all in one solution was just around the corner. When the sidekick 2 came out, all I really wanted was an mp3 player, better screen, and a better camera. For its time, it was pretty up there in capabilities and style (I impressed a few Europeans with it), and all was happy in the world.

Then Danger sat on its hands. The three was a half step forward, and the LX is what the 3 should have been so long ago.

Now Danger has been bought by Microsoft, and I feel its now a matter of time before they opt to remove the Danger OS instead of capitalizing on a non smartphone audience (as such they will loose that market to iphone / S40 / SE, and then be beat out on the smart phone market by S60 / iphone / RIM).

Regardless of the many mistakes made by Danger with the Sidekick, I have to admit that it was the best phone I have ever had. Everything was so easy on the device that the ease of use on the iphone doesn't impress me. Everything was so fast (not the network but OS speed), that UIQ and S60 just killed me when i would switch to them. The device was just so freaking useful for the many phases of my life, that I went through almost a dozen of them all told (between the color one, 2, 3, and LX) in between every other phone on the market.

I will keep my Sk2 as a backup because it's just too good a phone to pass up, and maybe Microsoft will come to its senses and use the good things about Danger's products.

This was one of the devices that on paper shouldn't have been such a good phone for me (limited data capabilities, stunted software development, horrible screen, big & bulky, crappy software), but in real life turned out to be head and shoulders above some of the major offerings from other companies.

I agree with you too, and at least you get to enjoy the Iphone
Here in Canada The Iphone has yet to be released.
You gotta give thanks to Andy Rubin for creating a great device like the Sidekick.
Now he is has been given a 2nd chance by trying to bring out the Google Phone (Android)
Hope it will turn out to be the real next generation should have been.

wow.. thanks for the info, didn't know he was working with android.

I am using an unlocked iphone on Tmobile, so I am not exactly Apple's ideal customer.

my cousin figured out how to unlock iPhones for T-Mobile, but he wouldn't really go into detail. are you paying for the monthly bill just like any other regular T-Mobile phone? what about internet service?

It's not hard to unlock the iPhone anymore. Download one program plug it in and one click later your unlocked. I am on a normal phone plan with the 19.99 total internet add on. No problems here. [/hijack]
