Hi guys,

Will this phone be out March 18/20? I want to jump to AT&T but would like to wait for this phone if it is coming out soon? Any info?

Thanks!
Jason

This forum isn't for regular questions, its FOR employees. Without trying to be a moderator, try and post your question in the proper forum before the bashers get in here and make you feel stupid.

Gotcha, thanks.

Info I was told today. I hope it's right.

Eta on some upcoming launch dates:

LG CU920 &
CU915
(eta 3/20)
LG Shine Black
(eta 4/10)

S.E. Z750a
(eta 3/6)
S.E. K850a
(eta Apr 08)

Motorola Z9
(eta 3/11)

Where are you getting your dates from kirbo20?

When I spoke with the folks at my local AT&T store they were absolutely clueless. The first guy was just going to google "CU920" and "LG Vu." He stopped as soon as he realized that I knew more about the phone than he would likely find in a typical google search.

In hopes of finding a roundabout means to a timeline I asked about mediaflo and local 3G. (Of course, I had to explain what mediaflo was.) The woman who I assume was his supervisor said we are expecting 3G here locally on June 1 (no relevance to the Vu release) and "U-verse" (IPTV, etc.) was expected to launch on July 1. (Again, no relevance to the Vu launch.) With that I left the store.

I'm really anxious to know release dates on this phone. Right now I have my short list down to two phones/manufacturers/carriers. It will either be the LG CU920/CU915 Vu on AT&T or the Glyde SGH-U940 on Verizon. Either was I am ready to be done with T-Mobile and this old Razr.

For the record... Verizon staff acted just as clueless about the Glyde.

retail acct executives, an at&t indirect support channel

vu release will be different for different markets, for example we will have the vu at my store on 3/18/08 but won't be available for sell until april

well, i just got back from the sonystyle store, here in northern va, the salesman told me they arent getting k850 in the strore, because its going to ATT! i dont know what to think anymore

Posted by: King_un

What I'm having a hard time finding out information on is the difference between the Cu920 and Cu915, I think I saw some where that one was with the media flo and the other without, but not very sure on that point, can anyone offer clairification on that?

Posted by: spicaly

pretty sure thats the only big difference

Posted by: King_un

are you sure I've really been trying to figure that out, from a marketing stand point it doesn't really make sense to realese two versions of the same phone at the exact same time unless there was a significant difference that would target a specific niche

thats that maybe i was talking about. among at&t employees too much conflicting info. sony reps saying yeah and no. suxbeingu pm with an email he recieved saying no, but not the actually email which i understand. but right now, according to at&t marketing se k850 will not make it to stores.

side note: sorry about hijacking thread

Posted by: urmobilesky

There are roadside billboards out there from from at&t saying "cool phones are just around the corner" so there must be some kind of truth to the rumors of the VU coming out before the end of March, but the only dates i've heard are the 18th and 20th as the drop dates, any more news on this?

Media flo will not be available everywhere, so I've heard that in the areas where it is available, the CU920 will be sold, and everywhere else the CU915 will be sold. This was in an older thread about the VU from a few weeks back.

Any more news of the VU being released around the 18th or 20th, in just a few days?

Posted by: spicaly

at this point with all the false predictions, i'll believe the phone is out when people start posting its for sale on att's website or posting unboxing pics

what about camera vs non-camera. hac vs. non-hac. and now media flo vs non-media flo. they all appeal to a certain group. speaking of media flo the sammy a827 access will be making an appearance soon

so I would assume by your message the 915 does not have a camera... I am not familiar with the terms "hac" and "non-hac"? So if you could please clairify

thkx!

nope i got you. the 915 lacks only the media flo option. as silly as it may seem. it makes some marketing sense. some professionals cant have cameras so they make non camera phones like the tilt or treo 750 which have to be special order. since media flo is only going to be in less than 15 markets it makes sense to make a non media flo version since this phone will appeal to so many. touch screen, small, not an iphone. and HAC is hear aid compat. it was just an example.

Last I heard was the 25th, pushed back a week, coming from our latest backorder and launch report. I don't trust those things though as the Pearl 8120 never showed up on any of them... and look what we have now.

Posted by: prime_minister

I'm thinking the Vu will be launched 1APR to coincide with the start of the next quarter..

I haven't seen the 8120 yet

There are so many rumors to the LG VU launch. Whats the latest news on a street date for at&t?

Posted by: anubis9278

i'm going with a q3 release since may is out

Posted by: irockash

Well my latest from a backorder list is may. The 25th one i said earlier, double checked and it was for a different phone.

you think its coming out in may?

was originaly scheduled for 18 or March and has not been pushed back tenatively to May 15th atleast thats what our inventory list for incomming phones reflects, I'm hoping for whatever reason they are able to get it pushed up to a sooner date but I doubt it

Posted by: gammaguy

With the latest press releases on Mediaflo it would make sense for a May release.

The VU should be coming out pretty soon...
I was at the mall the other day and saw an at&t kiosk with the Vu.
Didn't ask about it but I saw it in it's big shiny blackness.
But it WAS a display model and not working so I'm not sure.

They've already sent some promotional crap to stores, doesn't mean much. They also sent K850 promo stuff, and we all know how that went...

Will the LG Vu have a pressure sensitive screen or is it capacitive like the iPhone's?

Posted by: weatherking

According to the interactive user guide linked to here (the link's now dead), the touch screen is pressure sensitive.

Posted by: crabman

The link (and interactive user guide) is live but traffic is heavy and its up and down. CITA I guess...

Posted by: kirbo20

Well we got our SKUS today (very expensive by the way). We are going to try and order tomorrow and see what happens.

Posted by: thatboy

So whats the price gonna be cause I plan on getting this phone when I can upgrade on the 5th.

I just called one of the locate AT&T brick and mortar stores and I asked specifically "When is the launch date for the LG VU." the lady responded by AT&T does not sell that phone and asked if I was confused with another carrier. I didn't feel like explaining what I knew, so I just said thanks and hung up. I guess they are going to deny the phone till launch.

Posted by: kirbo20

May 4th is the launch date.

It probably has nothing to do with a "deny" policy either at the store or corporate level. It is more likely that you ran into a typical cell phone salesperson or CSR. Most don't know squat. And when you find one in the know, his information likely comes through "unofficial" channels. Usually HoFo, Phone Arena and Phone Scoop. And the most you usually get out of those guys is to check those sites.

Heck when I started asking about MediaFlo at the local store a month or two ago NO ONE in the store knew what I was talking about. Much less what the Vu was.

Posted by: Extremevl

I don't think you should think of the sales reps or customer service reps in a negative way because I'm an AT&T sales rep and they DON'T tell us anything until a week before and sometimes we don't find out until the day something launches or a new plan, feature, etc goes into effect.

Luckily for me I'm a cell phone junkie and I go to Howard Forums, GSM Arena, Engadget Mobile, Phone Arena and other sites on a daily basis. Most reps aren’t cell phone junkie and don’t monitor sites like this every hour so it’s not there fault if they don’t know about this stuff. Don't get upset if the reps don't know, get upset at the higher upper for not telling us.

Also the LG Vu was received today by our store (in Las Vegas, Nevada) but we can't sell them until next week on the official launch date and we only have enough for one family (think less than 5) lol but it is a great phone.

can you share pricing info? no commitment, 2 year, 1 year pricing?

How about no commitment pricing also?

Posted by: Extremevl

We still don't have information on the pricing yet because we are supposed to talk about the phone along with the Samsung Access and Mobi TV in our Saturday morning meeting since the phone doesn't launch until the 6th.

I believe just by looking at other prices that the phone would be -

Full Retail: $450.00
2-year: $299
Mail-In Rebate: $50

Don't know about 1-year since we don't do 1-year (in the COR stores anyway).

I gauged these prices off the current prices of phones in our line up (for this market). The LG Shine goes for $169.99 and the Motorola V9 & Z9 go for $269.99 and then mail-in rebates so I can't see the new LG Vu being less than $299.99 before mail-in rebate.

Posted by: Stea1th

299 isn't so bad, but I don't see why someone would rather have that over a iphone

I could see if the phone was 199

Posted by: DukeL

I wonder what the price difference will be between the vu and the vu TV edition? I'm wondering is it really worth an extra $15/month for the media flo tv.

Also, will the mediaflo tv viewing be interupted for incoming calls or will it go to voicemail? (I really hope it will interupt the tv for calls)

Posted by: dshort09

Will the $299 be for renewed too? I'm so sorry we're all just bombarding people with questions, but we're all so anxious for it to come out?

Posted by: DukeL

Here are some very detailed pics of the Vu...

ExtremeV,

I have to admit, I do think of most sales reps. in a negative way. And not just in the cell phone arena. I'm the type of consumer that does my research and walks into a store or dealership informed. And there is nothing I despise more than walking into a store and knowing far more about a product than a sales rep, or even their "tech" specialist.

And I did mention in my post that there are exceptions to the rule. You sound like you are one of the exceptions. And I do take issue with the industry as a whole for not keeping their sales people more informed. However, it is sales people like you that I can appreciate. You take the time to know your product and to find out what is on the horizon.

More often than not though, when you walk into a cell store armed with knowledge that the sales people might not have you are met with arrogance and an attitude of superiority that are completely unwarranted. I mean, where do these reps get off looking down on consumers who are more informed about the products that sell than they are?

And just so I am somewhat "helpful" in this post... Additional confirmation that the phones are in stores...

Now that the VU has started arriving in stores, we all know there are two versions, one with MediaFlo TV, the CU920, and the version without TV, the CU915. The price point was announced this morning's at&t press release for the TV version as being $399 in store with a $100 rebate, making is $299 of course. But there's no word on the version without TV? Any word on the price difference and what the CU915 will cost with contract and no commitment?
