Canadian vs US Hardware Pricing

I'm a little confused when it comes to the pricing for Canadian hardware vs the pricing for US hardware (specifically Blackberries). I don't understand why the pricing for a Blackberry in Canada is so much higher than that of our neighbours to the south.
The Canadian $ is practically at par with the US dollar and RIM is a Canadian company. I don't see any reason why the prices for Canadian Blackberries are so much more expensive. In many cases, the cost of a unit in the US on a 2-year contract is the same as the cost for a Canadian unit on a 3-year term (sometimes even less).
I realize that this probably has little or nothing to do with RIM and is almost entirely the result of the Canadian wireless providers but can someone clear this up for me? I'm sure the CRTC comes into play here somewhere...

I honestly thought people would be all over this thread with comments. I'm really surprised no one has had anything to say...
