w580 for nokia guy?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

need some opinions...
I'm a nokia guy, in general. (Besides the 1 1/2 years i spent with a Treo )

I've been looking at the w580, and I like it in general, but been leery (sp?) about all the reports of folks whose phones just didn't turn on one day. Just died.
Read somewhere (can't remember where) that it *might* be that the SIM card wasn't all the way in...

Is it all overblown (as with most stuff on the internet) and only affects a few units? Not so much worried about the cracked keys now, but wouldn't mind a bit of assurance on the build quality of the w580's.

Also, in general, i'm reading everywhere that the reception AND sound are great. Any dissenting opinions on this? I'm freaky about reception (used to very good Nokia's) and volume (hearing loss from, uh, things that boom loudly. )

Basically its just another phone to play with, as my nokia works just fine, and if it ever breaks, I will be grabbing another off ebay.

thanks for any opinions,
jd

edited: crap, hope this is in the right section...i think so, though.

all right then. thanks for the replies.
i'll stick with nokia, i guess!

must've been too difficult a question.

Nice attitude. Maybe you should stick with your Nokia since no one could answer your question.

Posted by: jdhermit

uh, ok. I thought the two emoticons I used ( ) would indicate *no* attitude?

Anyway, sorry the laughing was misinterpreted...

Seriously, though, I was really looking for answers on the phone. You seem to be someone on the forums who knows a lot about the 580...do you have anything to weigh in on about it? If not, thanks anyways.

Let me pass some lessons to you jdhermit. The heavy posters on here only answers questions for their friends so until you are in the " loop " you have to search for it and hope for the best or check another site. You would have better luck at phonescoop. Also if you have thousands of posts they might answer your questions. They live for the replies you found above. They enjoy not helping people. They really live for calling someone a noob 800 times a day and saying we dont care what you do because you dont have enough posts. With any phone its hit and miss. I am sure its a good phone. With anyone phone you buy these days from one of the big boys...Moto, Nokia, SE or Samsung you got about a 95 % chance of having no issues. Buy the phone and do everything you plan to do with it before the return policy is up from whoever you buy it from. Buy it from a company that backs up what they sell. Plemix, importgsm and of course directly from the manufacturer. Good luck to you and happy hunting. I hope this helps.

Ok, to answer your question, the phone is a good phone. It is not the greatest phone, but it is good.

The keypad issues seem to have been fixed, although there is no guarantee.

Get unbranded or debrand it yourself to utilize the full potential of the phone.

SE phones do get the white screen of death. Usually can be fixed with a flash.

Dapunisher - you are completely wrong. Usually the stuff and questions that are asked have been answered a million times. If you use the search button, you can usually find the answer you are looking for, especially relating to a phone that has been out as long as the W580i, which, by the way, has its own thread in the SE forum.
The memebers here that have a lot of posts get sick and tired of no0bs asking without searching. It clogs up the board, and is a waste of space.

dont listen to him (he is just running his mouth) ..
There are plenty of people around here who are willing to help.
There's no "loop"

The post was just in the wrong section.

He may think he is outside the loop because he should go back to the nokia section and post comments like that.

The 580 is a good little phone. I have had 0 problems with mine. For reception it fits in just like every other SE that iv owned. Its good - better than nokia's Iv owned in the past.
All phones can have problems but Im sticking with SE because i think they are the best "phones" IMHO (and the price is usually pretty good)...

sure yeah after someone calls you out on it then you answer the question...pretty lame.

" Oh, what a big man you are! "Hey, let me buy you a pack of gum. I'll show you how to chew it."

Well I think the question was in the right post so I did my best to answer it. Thats all we can ask of you, thats all we can ask of anyone isnt it?

Posted by: MP

maybe dapunisher should yield his own advice.. I dont understand why he has to be in a bad mood all the time. I dont think he even ownes a SE.

Posted by: jdhermit

its all good guys. thanks for the info. beer's on me.
was just wondering about the few things specifically, especially the sound levels/reception due to my hearing.

thanks again.

I am on the fence between the Nokia N82 and the Sony Ericsson K850.

price vs features... N82 is smarter than the 850..

Posted by: dapunisher

I dont/need want smartphone. I am more toward SE now after being on sefanatics.com. Got my phone on craigslist.

Posted by: kintamanate

dapunisher, I don't think Matts_k790a meant that the n82 is a smartphone, I think he meant that the phone has more bang for the buck. Better camera (picture quality), built in WiFi, 3.5mm audio jack, and GPS..to name a few.

Posted by: jdhermit

well, after all that, I did get a w580.
and i really love it. have downloaded themes, wallpapers, ringtones, etc.
altho, i've been a little timid on unbranding the thing, and need to figure out how to sync with a mac.
but its a pretty good little phone.

thanks
