(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: closet410

i have an att tilt so i have internet explorer mobile and im not really feelin it to much. what browser are you guys using?

Posted by: addiarmadar

Do belive Opera Mini is the current fad for browsers but Im counting the seconds for Skyfire. Do agree PocketIE and WMP is a bit lame.

Posted by: alpha_omega

Currently using NetFront its great and I think its a lot better then opera mini or the beta of opera moblie 9.xx (beta of 9.5). I'm also waiting for skyfire, those bastards never sent me a notification

Posted by: closet410

if i plan to use a different browser other than the one tht came with the phone, should i uninstall internet explorer first?

Posted by: alpha_omega

No there is no real need to. Also it comes in handy just in case the browser of choice is acting up

Posted by: pure_energy1

Currently using Opera Mobile 8.65... but counting the seconds to Skyfire.

Posted by: closet410

anyone know an ETA skyfire will be released? i think the beta is already out.

Posted by: tbfl

I use Opera Mini for quick access to most sites.

To access anything with my private info I use Opera Mobile (8.65 -where do I go for the 9.5 beta ?)

Some sites - like Google Reader - just seem to be designed to work better in old IE.

But I like all the rest keep checking my phone everyday for the SMS that says I got my Skyfire Beta invite...

Posted by: genaldar

I use PIE for most sites since I stick to the mobile web most of the time. When I need to load a real internet page I use Opera Mini.

Posted by: marktang

Opera 9.405 is the best one out i think.

Posted by: hipertec

what version of the miniopera are you guys using? Version 4 or 3 and high or low memory version?
This is for the ATT Tilt.

Posted by: jorfee

I use 4 and high memory

Posted by: dltempler

Pardon my ignorance but what is the difference between Opera Mini and Opera Mobile in terms of interface and use?

Posted by: oddsocks

Opera Mini is java based and Opera Mobile is native to Windows Mobile. Opera Mobile tries to give a "full experience", I think it's become bloated and instead use Mini inside a java emulator.

The beta has been out for a while but you have to sign up for the download. I signed up for the download the first day and still haven't gotten it when others who have signed up for later have. From what the website says there is still going to be a beta test group 2 and then there is still other countries so I don't think it will be out for at least another 2 or 3 months.

Posted by: cjmedina

i use netfront 3.5 it works great on my advantge. works better than opera (both) imho. i like picsel browser too

Posted by: jorfee

and where do u find this? i searched the site for a little bit but couldnt find it

Posted by: manoflamatzah

I have used minimo on occasion.. it opens some of the boxes that pie will not -

I am waiting for Opera 9.5 Mobile to come out. I think this will be better than all currently out there since it has a new rendering engine to load the pages. Nothing will beat it. If it can run on the HTC Touch, then it will definately run on the Wing and other Windows Mobile Pro devices just fine.

Posted by: Markymark26

I would have to say opera 9.5 beta...seems to run the best in my opinion.
Waiting for skyfire though

Posted by: jaekidd1012

I'm still using Internet Explorer Mobile. I wanna try a new browser but can't decide between Netfront, Picsel, Minimo, Opera Mobile and Skyfire. I got tired of Opera Mini. It loaded most pages a bit quicker than IE but the way the pages were rendered almost made me think I was still using my Samsung U740. I'll look into this Skyfire since practically everyone here is anxiously awaiting a copy of it.

Posted by: spyler03

i use sky fire on my tmobile shadow. works great.

Posted by: Touchman

I like to use opera mini 4 for web browsing. Its REALLY fast, and I love it. Heck, im posting right now from opera mini.

Posted by: enochthewalker

There is also a browser being developed for winmo by the company that developed the mobile version of safari for the iphone. I wish I could remember the name of the company or the url. If I can find it, I will post it in here. I would have higher expectations from this than skyfire due to the fact that safari is considered to be the pinnacle of mobile web browsing.

Are you talking about MS Deepfish?

Posted by: DavidBeaudoin

After reading this post, I must say that Net Front is much nicer than Opera. The fact that you can directly click in any textbox and type away saves time and the navigation is also great at the NetFront allows us to navigate "freely," when you are lost on your page, you double-click and it would open up the entire page loaded but in "fullscreen" so you can easily find yourself. I love it already. Great find to who ever posted this!

No. Deepfish is MS. this is a 3rd party app.

Posted by: MJ Wireless Inc

it all depends on my mood. i skip from opera 9.5 and netfront. the only thing that i dont like about netfront is that fact that it slows down my device a lot when i minimize it in the background. opera 9.5 beta is still a little choppy here and there

Posted by: JwY

Netfront and PIE.

Posted by: Mileskb

I'm interested in a new browser, but after I trying a couple, I'm not sure what I surf warrants it, as I have yet to see any advantage to any of them. I'm sure it's my lack of knowledge on my part, and lack of content in what I'm looking at, but IE seems to work fine, and I'm not sure it's even slow as that all seems limited by the connection.

Most of what I look at is text based forums, like this one. I have tried to use eBay on a mobile, but eBay's interface is the problem and I'm not sure any browser is going to help that. Of course there is mySpace and Facebook too.

Any thoughts.. fwiw here's my favorites list http://www.sunnyledges.com/m.asp

The only real issue I have is that I'd like the SCROLL WHEEL or UP/DOWN to SCROLL, not just move between links.

Just created a little web page that has links. Nothing fancy. I could have just saved it on the phone as html, just didn't.

Wirelessly posted (HTC Polaris: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.11) 1.0/HTC_Polaris)

opera 9.5 "beta" and pocket ie 6.1! I love mobile sites

Posted by: linuXshock

i use NetFront 3.5 and love it, too bad flash sites dont work (they said that netfront supports flash, but it doesn't work for me), it also has some java bugs here and there but nothing major. Overall it blows other browsers out of the water

Posted by: Mileskb

"Overall it blows other browsers out of the water"

Before I download a piece of software, I usually have some level of expectation. What exactly does "Overall it blows other browsers out of the water" mean?

On one hand, maybe I don't need another browser, but on the other hand, I hear people rave about other browsers.. but I have yet to see a single thing mentioned that any of them do that the native browser doesn't.

As example, on my PC I use Firefox over IE because it handles tabs better, blocks popups, and allows quick access via right-click to open new windows or tabs of portions of the current content expecially useful on site with frames. It can also be tweeked to take advantage of good internet connections and make life tolerable on pc's with poor internet connections which is especially useful on Laptops when one travels.

Can someone give real descriptions of what the advantages (and disadvantages) are of some of these other browsers for Mobile?

well NetFront unlike the IE in windows mobile 6.0 doesn't format websites to a mobile browsing, NetFront allows you to see the whole page, just like on the desktop and then zoom in and out and move the page around with your finger or a stylus. NetFront has tabbs and its fast than pocketIE, also NetFront has something called visual bookmarks (pretty cool concept, it takes a screen shot of the page your viewing when you are adding it to bookmarks and then when you click to view your bookmarks it will show you the screenshots right next to the name of the site)
if you wanna see what i mean by viewing the whole page and not being formatted to mobile format, go on youtube and search for "NetFront", you will see what i mean

u are referring to webkit. and its not a broser its an engine that powers the browser. Netfront is using it and Blackberry os 4.5 they are looking at it to be used.

from all the browser out i would have to say netfront and opera mobile are the best readily available. but i am using skyfire and it kills them alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll. unfortunately its not available to everyone i was lucky enough to get it and im happy. its amazing. they honestly cant continue with this being free. they should charge for it its too good

Posted by: enochthewalker

**Anxiously awaits skyfire**

Seriously though, I got an email that said everyone who signed up for the skyfire beta will get it before the end of april.

Posted by: Eckono

Im hoping something comes out soon. I'm using opera mobile, mini, and netfront. With skyfire, can you go to sites like tbs.com and watch episodes of family guy?

Posted by: ShadowXOR

What does Skyfire do better than Opera Mobile/NetFront and what does it do worse? I would like to make an educated decision, thanks!

Posted by: RileyFreeman

skyfire can play video directly in youtube and espn someone else confirmed hulu. i personally dont go to tv show websites. they are blocked in canada dont know ifi t would work in skyfire havent tried. but if all those sites work then it should.

it does everythinr better except currently copy and paste doesnt work and no multi line text entry. boxes like posting here or msgs in facebook we cant use yet they are working to enable it.

it loads extremely fast too. its just very good. one small complaint is theres no scroll bar so u cant just jump down the page u have to drag it up or down and repeat if u want to get to the top or bottom. and theres no glide

It sounds great but too many of the missing features are total deal breakers. I would jump on once they fix those issues you mentioned, because those aren't minor in my book...

i understand but u can go to any website. thats HUGE espn no problem. opera mobile people can give it all the credit in the world but when i try to send invites via email address from facebook it doesnt work. opera always froze up. skyfire NO PROBLEM. skyfire takes basically any website u can think of and puts it on ur phone. ill take those faults because multi line extry facebook, hofo and various other sites u can access from pie or load up netfront.

thats what i do if i need to do something and its multi line text entry i use netfront to open it if PIE cant handle it. so hofo ill just use PIE. posting comments on engadget, engadgetmobile, etccc ill use netfront, faceboo ill use facebook mobile on PIE.theres solutions for these temporary problems. they have even stated in their browser when u try to enter thats its coming soon.

p.s. tis is way off topic if anyone knows of any cdma touch screens HTC's with a keyboard a la mogul pls let me know im dying for a phone with more ram than the mogul

I'm trying to install opera mini by transferring it from it my pc. However it's not a cab or exe file. It has a .jad and.jar extension. Please help. Thanks!

I signed up for their 2nd beta Hopefully its soon. Opera Mobile is rather good if it comes to Windows Mobile devices. Opera Mini just doesn't have the capabilities for a WM phone, unless its just for looking over information.

There is an inactive thread about people wanting to upgrade the memory of the mogul here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...551#post2121551

It is not very active, but if they ever figure something out I will be on board.

yea i noticed that last night. but taking apart a phone im not to sure about that even if they do start it up. what happens if they make a mistake or its not working i wonder if they will pay for ur replacement? and diff countries diff prices too multiple factors here. so i think even if this succeeds theres be a lot of hurdles before they can offer it

Honestly, I don't think they will make it happen, and if they do it is so far in the future a replacement device will be on the horizon. It will probably be something that you would have to do on your own and you would have to come up witht he memory from a touch. Really dicey. You never know though, they could surprise us with a Mogul update with more memory and the same rom. (Still not counting on it.)

My blog is in my sig. It kind of sucks, but I also just started it.

dont bother with makayama its pie with software ontop so the same errors u had with pie will happen with them. all they were really giving was the glide feature. which netfront does on its own

I was more worried about the fact that this may or may not be a program Opera wants people giving out at their own leisure.

this is exactly why i dont use it. it takes over ur phone and theres no uninstall option. ull have google it or check ppcgeeks or xda they had to manually create an uninstall package. im sorry i forgot about this i should have warned u prior but since i dont use it it slipped my mind

Posted by: RileyFreeman

well i know this was an issue for some but skyfire has been updated now includes the following.

- Multi line Text Entry (2000 character limit)

- Auto-Complete Text Entry

- Paste into URL or search

- Ability to delete Bookmarks

- Multiple Zoom Modes for Touch screen phones

- Double tap to Zoom in and Zoom out

- Support for custom virtual Keyboards (sip)

- Web Search Shortcut softkey menu

- Access to windows mobile taskbar softkey menu

- Persistent settings for Smartfit, Mute and zoom size (this is for current skyfire users anytime u closed it it wouldnt keep ur settings)

- Support for 12-key and 1/2 QWERTY Devices

- password masking

- backlight usage based on system settings

- ok buttons sends skyfire to the background

Posted by: Sqube

That sounds righteous. To be honest, though, I'd be a lot more excited about a release date, whether I have to pay for this browser or not.

Any clues?

Posted by: enochthewalker

The beta is free. I thought they said that all beta signups would get a copy before the end of April. I guess they were kidding.

Posted by: RileyFreeman

it has been released. second they said people that registered before a certain date would get their signups before the end of april all the rest sometime this summer. i actually got 2 betas never used the second one though

Posted by: enochthewalker

I gotta dig up that email. I am sure that I was signed up for beta within 48 hours of it opening.

u need a java app since ur supposed to use opera mobile for smartphones not mini

Posted by: cbreze

I prefer opera mini 4 and 4.1 . As was mentioned the oem ie is slow and clunky. It has it's uses tho. I find opera mobile kind of slow also. All the opera mini versions are very fast and mostly do what I need.

Thanks in advance.

Posted by: Sushimoto

I'm using Opera Mini 4.1 which I prefer, and am trying Skyfire but have'nt decided if I like it yet.

Posted by: burgertime

There is a Opera Mobile 9.5 file for the storage card so you don't have to even worry about uninstalling or it taking over your stuff.

I am using the 9.5 Beta but it is pretty glitchy still hands down beats 8.65 which I paid for and was using as my main browser.

Posted by: TedMcGinley

currently using Opera Mobile 9.5, PIE (with PIE plus) and Skyfire. they all have their pros and cons, but as of right now, opera is winning. Skyfire is great, but the rendering is a little slow, especially for someone not in a 3G area. with WiFi it's quite nice, tho.

Posted by: Kid_Jackie

I use the Opera Mini browser on all of my smartphones whenever possible.

I have tried just about every mobile browser out there and the Opera team seems to have done the best job in my opinion.

Posted by: x2222

Opera mini is the best out there for the Tilt. I just was able to install SkyFire and I have to say that it's a bit dissapointing. Maybe because its still in beta, its really just a novelty at this point. Despite my fast 3g connection, zooming in is incredbily frustrating and slow as you will see. The best browser that's in the pipeline is probbaly going to be the next gen opera mobile.

Posted by: REAL

opera mini or mobile? how do you install mini on the tilt?

Posted by: h0whi

Skyfire and opera mobile on a BJ II
