Have you ever locked yourself out of the car?

HI,

Just curious if anyone here has ever locked yourself out of the car with the keys in the car? and tell us your story if there is one to it.

I have, I was going food shopping and got out of the car and locked the door with the key in the ignition and the engine running .... took my parents 1 hour to get the spare keys to me.

Back when I first got my license, my mom let me borrow her station wagon to go "only to the store"...well, I ended up cruising a bit, getting out, locking the keys in (engine off). I freaked...called a locksmith, who would charge $70 (yea, that's not going to happen). Check with our local police (who would only come out if a child was trapped in the car & slim jim it). Finally called home (all from a pay phone, btw) and I think I wasn't able to drive for a good few weeks afterwards.

Lesson of the story, I never locked my keys in a car again.

Never looked myself.....and even if that happen, I can call CAA.....we paid in advance for stupid stuff like that. lol

I locked my keys in my car after I popped trunk in my first car. (stupidly, I could have looked to see if the trunk was open before I closed my door) To make it worse, it was for a computer service call, so I spent 30 minutes waiting for the tow truck to open my door - which took another 15 minutes (nice to know that it takes that long to open a POS ford taurus w/out breaking a window).

Now I know my key is in the ignition because it beeps when I open the door.

I locked myself in once. Boy that sucked.

Duh, just get someone at another location to use the remote through their cell phone to unlock your car.

Oh god I hate being reminded of this.

I locked the keys in my old 93 Civic one time right in front of my house. It was my only key. I don't have CAA. Instead of calling CAA I thought, hey, it's a Civic, it's pretty easy to break in. So I tried, and peeled the window back JUST too far, and it shattered. My neighbors probably thought I was a retard. I ended up buying another window off torontocivics.com in the forum section from someone who was parting their car and replacing it. So much hassle, next time I'm calling CAA. Oh, and from now on I always have extra copies of my keys. Lesson learned, I guess.

couple of weeks ago i locked myself out of the company van , running with the cell sitting in the cup holder too . spent 40 mins getting it open with a chunk of chain link fence . thank ford for not putting using old style doors in a 05 e350 econoline van.
Got back to the office to learn we had a spare lol now if i could have called...

i had the same experiance also, the keys were right outside the car, luckily i had a hanger and the window was slightly cracked. i almost had my keys but the hanger fell and noone would help me so i was stuck inside. haha family guy gotta love it......
i lost count how many times i locked myself out, a few times at work but i could easily roll down my window so it wasnt a problem.

You don't need CAA. You can just call a tow truck or locksmith to help you out. Save yourself the membership fees.

No, I havent, and actually I hope I dont. Infact I am very careful when it comes to my 99' Buick winter beater as I only have ONE key and ONE key fob. My GTP has two keys and two key fobs so if I locked one in I would be able to get the other from the house (depending how far away I was)

Technically when I had my '02 Acura RSX Premium (Keyless Entry).

Thank God I had to sets with me. I left one inside and lost the other @ Costco. It didn't help that they were 10 minutes to closing and didn't have enough time to look.

Called Road Side Assistance. They found it a few days later.

The other was ****ed up, my Father's '05 Toyota Corolla CE. My RSX was down and used his, I did a quick visit to EB Games and left it running. After two minutes, I couldn't believe it LOCKED ITSELF!!!

It was raining/cold and again near closing time and had to wait over an hour outside.

its actually impossible for me to do that. i have that handy keypad unlocking system on my explorer.

but at school his kid had left his lights on, so we attempted to jump it, but he ended up locking the keys in the car.. dont ask how. it was pretty sad. and he had a keypad thing too, but of course it didnt work because the battery was dead.

I've locked the keys once in my mom's car when I was a little kid. But as far as now [e.g. now that I can drive], nope. Both of our cars have keyless entry and I make absolutely sure not to lock the car unless the door is closed and the remote is in my hand.

I had a loaner a few weeks ago and it was a brand new '08 Corolla CE with no power accessories. Without keyless entry I had to make doubly sure to only lock the door with the key. I can totally see myself locking the door from the inside, forgetting something in the car, going back in to grab it, and dropping my keys or something and slamming the door shut

yep. it was at my friends house. after hanging out for a few hours i walk to my truck to drive home, notice i dont have the keys, notice the keys now hanging in the ignition, and feel stupid.

2001 ford ranger, have that sliding middle piece on the back window, so i popped the open and yanked the keys. had to use some force, so there is a small crack on the glass around the latch.

i actually have done that a few times, but the other times i left the back window unlatched (but not noticable) so i just slid it open and problem solved.
