Activate with Ziphone, but open itunes??

Ok, I am wanting to activate my iphone using ziphone 2.5c so I can keep my current At&t data plan and not get an iphone plan. Zipone says you have to have itunes open. 1) Will openining itunes not automatically activate my phone?? Also, I read that a lot of people 'restore' versions of there phone firmware before using Ziphone. 2) How can you do this without it activation your phone?? Sorry if simple questions. I have never had an ipod, iphone, or used itunes before. Thanks

just plug it in, have itunes open and run ZiPhone...its so easy...I think its so easy people get confused
