Yes, I did it. I started a 3G thread.... (but it's not what you think)

I've finally, finally figured out why we need 3G on the iPhone!

It's nothing less than our beloved fellow HoFo members, that's why! More specifically, it's the members that feel the need to have entire animated GIF movie clips in their signatures ... that's who!

Wondering why one thread today was loading really slowly on EDGE on my phone ... but others weren't ... I decided to take a "peek" at some of these animated GIF bombs to see how much burden these folks are putting on our page load times ...

Perpetrator #1: GIF size 1.2 megabytes. That's about 1/3rd of your standard MP3 file -- or a 1 minute long song. Assuming an average EDGE speed of 180-200kbps, that's a freaking load time of 50-55 seconds just to watch your mini-movie. On every page of a thread that you participate in.

Perpetrator #2: GIF size 2.5 megabytes WTF!?!!one!. So double the last time ... I gotta wait two stinking minutes for your sig to load? Give me a freaking break. Any of the American Idol performances you can download from iTunes, are smaller than your sig!

God forbid, you get perp 1 and perp 2 both posting in the same thread. Your page will never finish loading...

Don't get me wrong ... I do find these clips amusing to watch. They're very creative. But be considerate of your fellow addicts that are EDGE-bound for much of the day, maybe? It's either that, or I'm going to have to start using the Ignore list ... for my first time ever.

Just a thought.

(...first N95 owner to open his yap gets a smack upside the head... LOL)

Kind of throwing the baby out with the bathwater ... there actually are some sigs that have useful info, BST deals of something someone is currently selling, etc.
