It's Possible use a .mp3 as Ringtone on Palm Centro?

Hi all i'm new on palm, and i just get a pair of centro from sprint and my wife make me crazy asking how to do this

any help?

Download minitones, get a microsd card, and use mp3's as ringtones.

Yes this is a good freeware program, works great!

Posted by: walkguru

where do you get it?

Posted by: ahecht

You can get minitones from http://www.freeware-palm.com/mirror/minitones.prc

If you don't have an SD card, you can install E2InternalDrive from http://palmpowerups.com/downloads.p...&download_id=17 which allows you to use the internal memory as an SD card.

you don't have to have minitones to use .mp3 as ringtones if you don't want.

i got mini tones and it works, thanks.

I'm also new to this game, should I go to the site from my phone or from my computer? If from my computer, how do I put it on my Centro?

Also, how do I put pictures from my computer onto the Centro? I've managed to do it the other way around, but can't figure out how to get them from here to there.

that's vague.. are you saying that minitones is not needed because the Centro natively accepts mp3 as ring tones now as opposed to say the Treo 650?

Install the Palm Desktop software from the CD that came with your Centro onto your computer. Then, if you download any palm programs (usually they are PRC files), if you double-click them, it will give you the option to install them the next time you HotSync your Centro. To hotsync, simply plug your centro into your computer using the included cable and press the button on the Centro end of the connector.

To add pictures to your Centro, open Palm Desktop, click on Palm Photos, and add them there.

You can also add pictures and programs without Palm Desktop if your computer supports Bluetooth. Simply connect your computer to your Centro over bluetooth and send the files using "OBEX Object Push" or whatever your bluetooth software calls file sending.

both the 650 and 680 can take mp3 ringtones, minitones prob is the easiet program to put it in, plus you get the option with minitones to adjust the size of the song, and which part of the song you want it to play as your ringtone

I use minitones and have for a while. That program makes it possible for say a Centro or 650 to understand and accept mp3 as a ring tones as they do not natively do so.

So since they cannot do it natively, that is, they must have a conversion program to make it happen... use minitones. point is, you can't just load an mp3 and expect it to play as a ring tone. it will not. not until you get a program, like minitones which rocks, to make it do so.

Soryy about that. Yes as long as you have a data plan. What I do is email the mp3 to email address, login to my email thru the phone and it will alow you a couple of options where to download it to and one is save as ringtone.

I use this site to upload ringtones to my Centro. If you happen to be a Sprint user, ignore the warning at the top of the page which claims it won't work. Trust me, it will. The nice thing about doing it this way is that you don't need any special software running on either the phone or the PC you are using. The site simply sends you an SMS text message with a link to the file. Once the .mp3 is downloaded to your Centro, it will automatically be converted to a ringtone. Easy as pie!

How do I delete songs from the internal memory? I put a song on there, used minitones to snip it down to what i wanted as a ringer, and saved that as my ringtone, so how do I delete the full version that is saved?

I know you could do it with a very useful program called FileZ - you can delete virtually anything off a the memory card or internal memory with that app. the only real trick is knowing where the file is found

You can at least on the at&t Centro use mp3's right out of the box with a memory card, very easily. Just hotsync the mp3 you want to use onto your card ( I cut mine down to the 30 seconds I want to hear using free 3rd party software on my desktop). then open Blazer(you do not use any data kb's to do this) and as you would in IE, type the location of the file such as "file:///audio/xxxx.mp3" where xxxx is the exact name of the mp3 file and hit go. Blazer will convert it and put it directly in your ringtone list. No cost, no special program required. I have done this personally and it works great. just do not put any spaces in the file name,it will not accept spaces.

I have Centro through Sprint, and your little trick worked like a charm.

Thanks!

Hey hofo community! this is my first time posting... I just got my first PDA phone. I been following off on this thread. I just downloaded the mini tones programe. I dont see the Icon anyware on my phone. How do I open it?

It should be their because it said downloaded complete.

Posted by: smartphoner

Did you download to your PC or straight the phone? DId the file end with .prc?

Posted by: MackPack

I downloaded it to my centro directly. The file name is mini _tones.prc
Once i didn't see the application, I tried downloading it a few times. That was probably a dumb move because now I notice my internal memory is decreasing.

Posted by: ahecht

First of all, are you sure you downloaded it to the Centro and not to a microSD card in it? Second, when you download it it will go into the "Unfiled" category in the launcher -- have you looked there?

Posted by: MackPack

When I went to the link mentioned earlier in the thread. I found the programe clicked download. Download warning screen came up saying " ........not content from sprint". I clicked yes. Then I saved to: device. BTW available memory 47.7M. Then I clicked yes to download The download screen appears with the file name min_tones.prc with a bunch of circles going across the screen as if the where desplaying the download progress, although they are not moving. At the bottom it says save or save and open. I tried save once and save and open once...it brought me to a smaller box labeled transfer, with the messege ""Do you want to accept "mini_tones.prc" into web"" So I clicked yes. Then another box opens up thats labeled Error with a messege saying download in progress. Then I clicked ok. Then it says download complete and I click ok. Since i saved it to the device, i checked the unfiled screen and i dont see anything new.

As you can tell i tried saving it and saving then opening but i got the same results no new programe.

Btw its MiniTones v0.1b is what im trying to download. Is this the right version for the Centro.

I do not have a memory card but have downloaded minitunes to her palm (pointless right...). I know I can't use it so I am looking for an alternate way to get to play her mp3's as ringtones. We used rumpkin and have an mp3 saved in the ringtone section but when selected there is no sound... I read that it won't play because it is "joint sterio" and needs to be "sterio" how do I do this. What is the easiest way to get her mp3's to play as ringtone. Thanks.

If you don't have an SD card, you can install E2InternalDrive from http://palmpowerups.com/downloads.p...&download_id=17 which allows you to use the internal memory as an SD card.

anyone else have issues with setting your contact to have a custom ringtone you made with minitones, but not having it recognized? this is on my VZW Treo 650.

I have made many ringtones. imported them with minitones. assigned them to a contact and perfect.. other times, they do not work. The sound manager plays them so I know they are not corrupt and play, but when I assign them to a contact, they do not play when the person calls.

I cannot tell if I am making the wrong in Audacity and exporting a bad mp3 prior to minitones uploading and importing it? are there requirements for mp3 ringtones (length, bitrate, kb.. etc) as I am not sure why some play and some do not.

How do I delete the Built In Drive that's created by E2internal? Now that I have an SD card, things keep ending up in the wrong place.

Posted by: smartphoner

Maybe you would have to do a hard reset
