New V3M Strangeness

Okay, so my old V3M broke in half. Upon hearing that Alltel had released their V3M firmware I was excited to get another one an happily live out the next two years with a fully capable V3M, only to find out (By bricking my brand new phone) that it was an MEID, not ESN... didn't do enough research.

Anyways, after playing dumb I got a new phone from Verizon the next day and have just been deleting all of the crap put on it by Verizon (Stock ring tones, pictures, etc) and just seem editing a few things to change up how it works.

So far I'm actually IMPRESSED with the flexibilty of this new OS they put out, nowhere near as bad as the criple-ware that was my old V3Ms stock OS... but nowhere near as nice as my old V3M flashed to a V3C firmware.

After finally getting everything the way I wanted it I was just looking around and found my MDN and MIN numbers. Both were different, as I've read is normal, but after wondering what it was, I called the MIN number, and it went right to voicemail.

Now, this is where things start getting strange for me, it wasn't my voicemail, it was another man's voicemail, AND it was the same guy who called me while my phone was broken and berrated me for calling him at 3:00 AM all the time from my phone number (I assume I'm his MIN and he's my MIN and our MDNs are both our own numbers) but my question is: How the hell did my phone call his phone earlier, and why the hell is my MIN an ACTIVE number for another customer?

I called Verizon a few weeks ago trying to figure out why my phone was calling this man, and they said it was impossible, well, upon further investigation, I don't think it sounds all that implausible. What's going on here? I don't want to have my phone making calls to people, but I'm more worried about why an ACTIVE number is listed as my MIN.

Does someone want to help explain this to me? That would really be awesome. Thanks guys.

I talked with Verizon about it, the woman I talked to actually knew what she was talking about, crazy... anyways, no specifics, but she said it was probably a malfunction in my phone that caused it to call the MIN in an attempt to self-program or something of the sort.

My old phone's main board was freaking out the whole time it was in half, since after I broke my first new V3M I swaped the internals to see if I could just get my old half phone to work with the new screen on the new V3M, but the same problems were happening, so I think it was just due to the main board freaking out, but I'd love to hear what you guys think.

I'll try and explain without too much information. The MDN is your number, not the MIN. This MDN is the Mobile Directory Number; the number you dial to get your cell phone. The MIN is the Mobile Identification Number, used by the service provider to identify your mobile. They can be the same number as they were in previous days. However, with Local Number Portability the service provider had to give up the MDN so you could take it with you to the new service provider. However, the MIN remains the property of the original service provider. This was mandated to slow the use of numbers. So don't dial the MIN since the MDN of the same number is actually someone's cell phone number.
