Downloading ringtones for my LG VX8300 to my computer...

Hi there! Thanks so much for readying my posting. I love my Verizon LG VX8300 cell phone. I have turned off the text and online features, since I only wanted to be able to call friends and have them call me.

I went online and found free ringtones that you can download to your computer on the cell phone's memory card, put into phone under sounds and now can not find away to transfer them to my_ringtones.

I noticed that there were four files you could save these MDI files to:

1.) my_pics
2.) my_flixs
3.) my_tunes
4.) my_sounds

I was wondering if anyone would know how I can do this? I stopped over at Verizon salesman did not know how you could do this. That is why he gave me this web site.

I have also downloaded songs from my computer to cell phone's memory card. Can I use them as ringtones? I am sick of the ones in the phone and thought I would add more that I like.

Thanks so much for your help and have a good one.

Try the following, make a new folder "ringers" (I think that it has to be all lower case), then copy the MP3s or MIDI files that you want to use as ringers into that folder. For ringtones, you will probably want to edit the MP3s down to about 30 seconds. I think that is what I did, but if that doesn't work, you may have to get a data cable and use software like bitpim to load the ringtones into you phone's memory.

Please let me know if this works for you.

Hi! How are you doing? Thanks for the advice. I tried saving the MDI files onto the SD Memory Card, but with no luck. I saved them under my_sounds, they are there and you can play them, just can't save them to be a ringtone on my phone. I tried saving them under my_ringtones, but also no luck. I also tried saving them under ringers, but nada. Nothing even shows up. I guess I will have to get the USB cable and try the other way. I was hoping I could just save it to my memory card, put back into the phone and move to the phone. Oh well, I knew it could not be that easy. Again many thanks for the reply. "Hoppy Easter!"

I wondered if it had anything to do with the fact that you are using midi files and I am using MP3s so I tried taking an MP3, copied it directly into the MSD card "ringers" folder, and then checked to see if it would show up as a ringtone. It didn't. I then connected the phone to my PC with a data cable and used "BitPim" to "convert" the same MP3 file, loaded it into the phone using that software and it shows up and works fine. I don't know what the difference is as it appears to be on the MSD card as an MP3, but copying it directly from the computer to the card using Windows Explorer does not seem to work. Sorry that I misled you.

Happy Easter back at you.

O.K. you can copy the files onto the MSD card, put it back into your phone , but you then have to use BitPim and have the phone linked to the computer to get them to show up on the phone. (The VX8300 Instruction Manual available on these Howard Forums gives detailed instructions.) I know that it works with a data cable, but I haven't tried it with bluetooh.
