Walmart, $5 for vent clip mount. Works well.

I already have a Universal Mount that I can use for a GPS device, Creative Zen Vision M, Palm TX, Blackjack or any other device. Why would I need to buy one specifically for one device only?

Whatever, good to know though.

I use to say the same thing until I used my first ProClip... it is like comparing apples and oranges. The ProClip is in its own league.

I use to have a vent clip and a windshield mount with universal bracket. It works fine and it was inexpensive but that was the problem... it looked universal and looked inexpensive. The ProClip is just a much higher quality installation and look to it because now it is a custom fit for the device as well as the bracket to the vehicle. I LOVED it for my TyTN2 which allowed me to swivel from portrait to landscape and slide out the keyboard while still on the bracket. So for those that don't mind paying a little more you get a little more. The way I looked at it was I was willing to pay more to get a better Windows Mobile phone why do I want to put it something that doesn't do it justice?

So far, I have yet to even had the need to mount my Blackjack or Palm TX up on my windshield or dashboard.

Especially since I already have a TomTom One.

TomTom One is a "disconnected" device whereas my Windows Mobile device is not which is why I mount mine. Have you tried the Microsoft Live Search with GPS enabled? For a free app I love having the option of knowing actual traffic flow, gas prices, weather conditions, etc or more importantly while driving doing a voice search for unlimited points of interest. Very cool.

I thought TomTom came with a coupon for a FREE ProClip out of the box?
I don't like using those suction windshield mounts that come with lots of GPSr's. Unfortunately for one it is a dead giveaway to thieves and police report that is one of the big issues they deal with now plus when I travel to California it's illegal to use them.

my new ProClip is on the way. I will be doing a lot of driving and these are very nice mounts...

I have the TomTom One 3rd Edition and it works for me since I've had it before I got my Blackjacks.

I just recently downloaded the Microsoft Live Search and haven't had the time to really use it to form my opinions of its use yet. I have gone through some of the things such as the weather, gas prices and just a few short searches for POI's. So far they may turn out to be beneficial when I'm not in my truck and just want to do a simple search. I've used the MEdia Net portal to do some searches such as weather and airport status when I was travelling in January so there's more stuff to use if needed.

Not sure about the free ProClip as I bought my TomTom One over a year ago in January. I bought it in California and knew about them not allowed to be mounted on the windshield. I ended up getting a mount that goes into the cup holder (pictured below) and it works fine just have to look a bit further down than before depending on where the cup holder is. I would have gotten the mounts that sit on the dash, but most usually have to use adhesive to stick and most of the time when I go to California, I use rental cars and sticking and unsticking that mount isn't feasible. I've heard about thieves breaking into cars to get them and I always take the whole thing down anyways and hide it under the seat or take it with me in my backpack.

Bezel mounts are the bomb! They install by removing your radio's bezel, loosening a bolt, and sliding it on.

They don't cover anything up and can support a laptop(?), well hopefully my new(when available) HP UMPC 2133!

I've even seen one made in a high school shop class, they are just thin metal and paint.

Got it links about more info on these bezel mounts? I am curious.

Mango808.. Hey I like that coffee cup mounting idea! I use a soft bean bag mount when I am traveling that I throw up on rental car dash but I think I like your method better.

It's the one(of many)that the iPod is using. Notice it is off to the side? They are also seat mounts that attach to a seat bolt and use a flexible goose pipe with a quick 1 click release.

I actually bought that cup holder mount at a Best Buy specifically to use when I travel to California to use my GPS. I think I got it for $19.99, but other times I've seen them for more. The link below is from Buy.com and has it for $22.12 shipped.

Bracketron Mobile Dock-iT Universal Cup Holder Mount - UCH 100

As for the Bezel Mounts, I've seen a variation of one of them at Circuit City stores and on their website linked below for about $12.99 each.

Features

Permanent mount: If you want a permanent solution to mounting your mobile electronics, this custom bezel mount is the answer.

Secure fit: This mount will keep your mobile device secure in a driver-facing position. It's designed with a wider mounting area to fit more devices.

I thought about getting one of those "bean bag" or "weighted" ones that just sit on the dash, but decided against it and went with the cup holder one. I wasn't going to chance the unit sliding across the dash if they used Armor-All to protect the dash.

Thanks for all the great links! Yeah... armor-all will mess up the bean bag mount.
