I would image that Nike and AIM (AOL) have gotten the ok to create application and may even be getting help from Apple. Has apple stated or anyone else speculated on the companies that will also received the SDK?

Anyone can get the SDK ... I think you are more asking who will get persmission to sell through the iTunes AppStore. I would image most developers would ....

The thing here is not to think that people who have not gotten on the 2.0 firmware beta, will not eventually get on, or not be able to pay $99 in June to distribute apps.

Anywho ... back to your list. I would add Sega and EA Games, as they demo'ed working apps at the SDK event. Also the medical company one.

So we have
Sega
EA Games
AIM

who else?? I heard slingbox was defiantly putting it out there. Any other sure things? Not just speculation?

Microsoft is taking interest as well.

With the limitations on only one app running at a time, will AIM even be worth it? You'll have to resign in each time you back out to check mail or look at Google maps.

I suspect for larger companies, like Microsoft, Apple will work with them and provide a beyond-the-SDK abilities to run backgrounding applications.

The reason for not letting the masses do it is probably one of safety and resource constraints on the device.

That could be a fluke on apples part, you never know things could change.

It looks like Slingbox will develope software for the 3G version but people are wondering if Steve will allow it in the apps store because it's a hog of a program. Also, can't you buy tv shows from the iTunes store? If that is the case I wonder if they will be concerned about slingbox stealing potential profits.

Most of the articles said that they are looking at the late fall to winter time frame for the slingbox software to be out. After the keynote speech they did a demo in a starbucks (I think) across the street from where the keynot took place with a jailbroken iPhone and it apparently worked (obviously they were on wifi). There is a video floating around of it, they did make it clear that any software they develop with be for the 3G version only. I can't wait until this comes out!

I want Nike+ to work, dammit. No reason to own two low-capacity iPods.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm waiting for but Apple nor Nike have said anything to make on believe it's coming. But in addition to keeping track of runs I’d like to keep track of complete workout, runs, bike rides, etc.

So where in the hell is my Nike+ application????

I would like to have eBay app, actually, it does have but only for US users not for Canadian users... so lame!
