I Tried Using My Backup Phone With My Iphone Simcard Today And I Can't Access Medianet Anymore.
I Called Customer Service And They Told Me That At&t Is Not Allowing That Anymore.
Anybody Know More About This?

Posted by: bostonirishguy

Looks like there might be something to this. I can't access MediaNet on my backups either. BUT, I still have access to non-MediaNet sites. And I'm on the BIS plan.

Huh, sounds like AT&T is getting as strict as Verizon....that's not a good thing.

Posted by: MCKINNIE

This better not be true. Sometimes I really hate my iPhone but I cannot get rid of it.. so I switch to a backup. And now I can't have my internet.

EDIT:

Yeah, just tried accessing 3 sites, none of them work. This is bull.

Posted by: celtictech

I just put my iphone sim in my BB pearl and medianet worked fine!

Posted by: MCKINNIE

Put my iPhone sim in a debranded w580i, and every site I go to says "Something is wrong with the page you tried to access. Choose another link."

Then put it in my d807, and it says "Forbidden."

I guess it's a good thing I don't use the internet a whole lot. If I were a power user I'd be pissed.

CS told one of my customers that it was b/c medianet uses more data than iphone, what a bunch of crap. if that were the case why is MN cheaper? STOOOPID!

Posted by: zephxiii

What are we really talking about here? Internet access, or accessing AT&T's little website commonly referred to as MediaNet?

For those of you that can't access outside websites, try disabling the proxy and see what happens...

Posted by: cing3760

it still doesnt work. you can't access any data centric features, not even mms messages go thru.
i called cs and they told me att is blocking any non iphone access in their system.
i sold my iphone and switched to a palm centro and it took 3 phone calls to cs to get the pda personal data plan to work.

Posted by: zephxiii

I would file a complaint.

Posted by: cing3760

i did and was told that it wasn't allowed with the iphone data plans to begin with, they just never closed the loop hole until now.

If this is true, I don't think it is very fair. Seems to me they are punishing the people who activated the phone and signed the 2 year agreements instead of the people that jailbroke it & use medianet. Are they going to block data for everyone that uses a different phone, how about the people with medianet using a PDA, or the Blackberry users, are they going to be restricted to only blackberry phones?

Posted by: cing3760

i switched to a palm centro jesterday and got the pda personal data plan and i am now able to use my w810 with no problems. it seems it is only limited to the iphone data plans, now may that will also change soon.

Okay, so as of now, I have an iPhone - and like a idiot, I sold or gave away all my old ATT phones when I got it. Now I'm regretting that and I'm looking in getting a back-up phone just for the beach in the summer, to take to bars, etc... (For as much as people steal iPods, I don't even want to imagine how quick an unattended iPhone would go in a bar, haha)

Either way - if I bought a GoPhone and popped in my SIM, would everything work okay?
The reason I ask is because as I read, I keep hearing mixed things. I hear that the data won't work, and then some people report it will with no problem.

That then leads to my next question...if anyone has done this before...let me know what GoPhones you've gotten the data to work okay when interchanging SIMS.

I'm not dead-set on a GoPhone either. I still have upgrades available on all 4 ATT lines I have, so if you recommend a good phone that I could get for a decent price, lemme know!

Thanks in advance!

PS: I'd really like something with 3G. Wifi isn't a big deal to me, but a 3G phone and something that's easy to text on would be great.

**EDIT: I really like blackberries, would my iPhone data plan work if I popped the SIM into a blackberry, or are data plans unique just to blackberries?

I've been having this for a while now. I called CS this morning. I got my wifes to work but mine is still not working.
The CS told me it was because the phones use different internet packages. I laughed & told her it did not. I told her the iPhone plan is no different than a medianet unlimited & 200 messaging package. Her reply was how did you know that.
They had me change the media net settings from my AT&T branded V3xx. My wifes phone will connect but mine still won't the tech support said it was an issue on their end.
Heres the settings if people want to try them.
Homepage: http://device.home
Name:
Proxy 1: 66.209.11.32
Port 1: 80

DNS 1: 000.000.000.000
DNS 2: 000.000.000.000

The name field can be anything you want. My V3xx will not let me edit the Media Net listing, I had to copy it & edit the copy. If there is nothing after : leave it blank.
It took a restart & about 10mins for my wifes sim card to work in the V3xx.

I'll have more to add later, but for now:

wireless.cingular.com = 66.209.11.32

Looks like within the last few days, at&t has blocked my medianet access on my backup phones using my iphone sim!

Here is my experience with a Tilt:

Webpages come up blank, but:

Activesync direct push email still works, and slingplayer still works.

Figures this would happen right after I talk myself into an iPhone.

Posted by: celtictech

Yeah, not all data is blocked, just medianet. Opera, yahoo go & jivetalk still work on my pearl. The only thing that doesn't work now are the medianet browser & MMS.

Posted by: MCKINNIE

Is it only if they know you are using a different phone, or just all together? Or is it stopped now? Because my iPhone SIM is in my unbranded w580i right now, and I just got a picture message. Just checked my facebook as well, and I didn't tamper with the internet settings at all.

Posted by: DoubleSh0t

I'm having the same issue right now. The thing is, my SIM was NEVER activated on an iPhone, the iPhone was jailbroken, unlocked, and the activation was bypassed. Hell, I have a "MediaNet Unlimited" plan listed on my account, not iPhone Data.

This is bull. AT&T cannot deny me a service I'm paying for.

Posted by: celtictech

I wonder if they are detecting all customers that are using an iphone & blocking all medianet access in regular phones regardless of whether you have the iphone data plan or regular medianet data.

Posted by: misha24

I believe they had some issues with sites or some areas. I know I had a 900i that I had issues with and I came home yesterday and put my sim from the iphone into the unlocked unbranded d900i and it worked fine.

Misha, I was hoping it would just be a one-night thing, but it's not working today either. Ugh, this is frustrating.

Posted by: suthurnlatino

stuck in the same situation with my iPhone. I wish I never would have activated that damn thing. It is strange tethering works on my V3xx but nothing else. I've been with Tech Support for 5+ hours.

Posted by: MCKINNIE

I put those settings into my d807 with my iPhone SIM in it and now my internet is working fine. MEdia Net and all.

Posted by: DoubleSh0t

I spoofed my IMEI to an old Nokia I had sitting around, problem seems to be solved and I can also modify my plan in OLAM again.

Glad I searched these forums regarding this issue. I started my AT&T plan with a Tilt but have had 2 units fail on me so I picked up a $250 refurb iPhone last week and unlocked it (thnks Ziphone!) to test it out. I really like the iPhone but love using GPS and Slingplayer on my Tilt. Since the iPhone data plan is cheaper, I contemplated activating the iPhone through AT&T but want to keep the Tilt to use these feature and wasn't sure if I would still be able to swap the sim and still get 3G data speeds. Looks like I'll be keeping my original plan for the Tilt and paying the extra $20/month (really can't live without Slingplayer!!) and just keep my iPhone unlocked.

BTW, I've had no problems accessing MediaNet on the Tilt.

I haven't had any problems using MEdiaWorks on my Blackjack 1 or 2. Nor did I have any problems with my 8125, hw6515a, Treo 600 either.

Posted by: joelv2g

no problem here on my end. I have a iphone paying 30 bucks for unlimited data and 1500 sms. switch to imate 8502 and everything works fine.

Posted by: Blizz127

don't have a problem here i jsut seem to be in edge mode than 3g

Wirelessly posted (Nokia 6620: BlackBerry8110/4.3.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

Just call a rep every time you want to switch. Eventually they will get tired of that.

I'm a little confused. I want to get a 3G iphone when they come out next month for my wife and I'm not really planning to jailbreak it if I don't have to.
A) Do I have to activate the iphone data plan to make the iphone work, or can I just stick her SIM in the iphone? She already has media net (uses with phones and a Treo 680?)
B) If I do have to 'activate' the iphone plan to make it work. Can I call and tell them I'm switching back to the media net plan.
C) If I switch back to the media net plan, can I then use the iphone as well as the treo 680 and other phones? Or will using the iphone trigger a lock on the data making the non-iphones not work? I thought the iphone would work on media net, but just visual voice mail wouldn't work.

Thanks. I've searched and searched and haven't quite figured this out. I just want to know what NOT to do that will make it hard to get back to what I need.
