i remember when bell first launched the "world phone" (8830), we were quite excited about it...until people were storming back into the store when they returned from their trip complaining how they didn't work...CS was useless, the customers were angry, and we didn't have any way to resolve it...i don't know if it still an issue, although i heard Telus was going through the same thing...my friend who works at Rogers was trying to resign a large corporate account, but Telus undercut the offer and gave away the farm to get them 8830's and touted their world service...they never had any problems with Rogers, but Telus was going to be less expensive, so the client signed about 95% of the lines with them...about 2 weeks later, they went to the Bahamas (or somewhere down south where they frequently go and were told it was going to work) and sure enough, the phones didn't work down there...the client returned, met with my friend, and moved everything back to Rogers...it actually turned out quite well as they now counted as activations...the customer also paid about $40,000 in cancellation fees with Telus to move back to Rogers...lesson learned.

they should have been...it was a big account...the president of the company wasn't too impressed when he had to use a "junior" employees Rogers phone down there in order to make a call...but even when everything was set up properly on Bell, we still had TONS of people who complained about it not working (this was mostly in europe, and not little countries, i am talking about the UK, Germany, France, etc).

we did everything that needed to be done prior to leaving (activate SIM, had customer call into CS, etc)...several times, we had customers call us at the store from overseas using another phone to figure out why it didn't work...we had them on the phone with CS and tech support, and they couldn't figure out why it wasn't working either...on a few of them, i just let the customer return their units as they just wanted to cancel and go to Rogers...i couldn't blame them.

You don't have to call if the initial rep wo set it up did everything properly as far as registering the SIM to the account and adding the SOC etc.
