Let’s see if I can remember the steps I used. I found a musical piece I liked in MP3 format. Looking at the time bar as it played I note the exact time of the part I liked. Then I added 30 seconds to that time and made note of the end time. Using the Get INFO function on that track I looked for the fourth tab called Options. There I set the Start Time and the End Time to match the location of my audio selection. I applied that option and closed this window. From the file menu at the top left side I located Options – Advanced Tab – Sub Tab Importing – Import Using -> I selected ‘AAC encoder’. Then press OK and close that window. That gives me a default option under the sixth iTunes Menu bar heading call ‘Advanced’ -> ‘Convert Selection to AAC’. Convert your file to AAC. It will play only for the time you set but the time bar will still show the total time of the original song. I think I selected the file in AAC format and told iTunes to convert it again at that point. I am not sure of the exact sequence here but it works. Anyway locate this file on your hard disk using Windows File Explorer. It will have an extension of M4A. Rename the file with an extension of M4R. Double click on that file to play it from Explorer. ITunes will play it since it is the default player for M4R files. After playing the file once you will now find it part of the iTunes library under Ring tones and it can be transferred to the iPhone at that point during Sync. Have fun with a no cost way of making custom ring tones for the iPhone. All it takes is a little knowledge of how iTunes works to use it’s built in features. With iTunes you can convert to different formats if you play with it; like making an MP3 out of an AAC file etc. BTW you can send your custom made ring tone to anyone and they can import it into their copy of iTunes by clicking on it to listen to it. You can make a ring tone out of voice – “Answer the iPhone sucka, someone is calling!” etc. |
