Hi. My friend might be going to Japan in the summer so I wanted him to get me some phones. Just wondering what the prices are over there for the 905i series. Thanks.

http://search.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/...cale=0jp&acc=jp

That's for the SH905i - goes up to 250-260 euros, the dollar being somewhere near 1.58 for one euro, that would be about 410 dollars.

I'm talking about a store you can purchase phones from. Are the prices comparable to YAJ? I thought it would be cheaper than that. If someone lives in japan or has been there and knows the street price of these phones. I'd appreciate it if you posted the price. Thanks.

No, it is cheaper on YHJ. No store will be selling the phones to your friends unless he has a over 6month VISA. If he somehow found the "White Rom" phone shops the price will be more expensive than the price you see on YHJ. Plus it is definitely difficult to find these store as they are rare and usually located in a building rather than actualy stroe front. (I think they are only semi-legal...)
DoCoMo and Softbank change the pricing structure the heavy discount is gone. With the dollar sliding the price you see on eBay is actually not too bad.

Your best pick will be on ebay or jap auctions

I whent to japan last year and i could not buy any phone outright from a dealer there but they still sell outright phones there but the non jap ones like nokia sony etc.... but u will find those at random shops around tokyo etc...

My friend has relatives in Japan so he's gonna get them to buy it. Is it cheaper on YAJ? I guess I'll get him to bid for me and have his cousin send it over. Thanks for the info.

Yes, almost everything is cheaper on auction sites.

can you post the link here please? I'm searching through ebay and their pricing is a bit too high.

I can buy an iphone from the local store for the same price. The phones as reported on this thread I think are around 300-400 in Japan? They've jacked up the price almost by 2x. After adding shipping from ebay the cost comes out at around 700 something (if you want the hacked sim and the recharger which I believe everyone needs).

I can pay up to around low 600 dollars at most and so I'm trying to find a seller who will offer at a lower price

If you manage to find them for around $300~$400 please let me know....
The truth is if you take a look at Yahoo Japan they are actually pretty expensive now days even in Japan. If you have a contract with DoCoMo and you just want to buy the phone out right from the store...it is actually even more expensive with P905i cost around 55000 Yen...which is $550+ already.

Will be getting harder to buy recent new Softbank phones on Yahoo Auctions Japan now. They're being cancelled by YAJ as they get put up due to the new policy brought on by Softbank...

Posted by: seth313

try 秋葉原 , as AL9999 say it is very hard to buy new SOFTbank phones on yahoo.co.jp,

where in akihabara can i buy those phones?
and how much is the P905i and SO905i in DoCoMo dealers?
my Japanese friend in Japan can buy one for me.

None of the store in Akinhabara will sell you a DoCoMo phone without contract...you can get your friend to buy it for you if he has a contract and just pay the full retail price on it, which is around $600.00

Yea...Yen is getting expensive these days.

Posted by: lifesuk

japanese cellphones are well protected there, they are not allowed to ship worldwide unless you claim it to be something else. and cellphones can not be purchased alone in stores, they must be signed a contract, but you can find a few online stores who sell them. also, in order to prevent 920sh to be sold out to overseas, Softbank restricted all the cellphons from them on Yahoo JP must be either used or at least 6 month old since purchased, they also raised the price of 920sh. they are just so mean.

Posted by: murdoc2k

They know eventually someone will hack it. I mean... just by looking at the PS3 is a great example. There are many other examples like Microsoft Windows who before tried to claim their OS was very secure and yet, hacked the next morning *exaggerating*. So they must think of some other way to prevent people from shipping out their phones.

The fact is, they are #1 world wide in making cellphones and so they like to keep that. I'm pretty sure they know there are hypersims out there that hack 905s already so they must be pretty pissed

Posted by: AL9999

I think there are a lot more people attempting to hack the likes of the PS3 and Microsoft Windows than there are the 920SH and other Sharp phones though...

I agree. Much bigger audience in gaming.

Posted by: lifesuk

yea like i said before, we need to hire iphone dev team.

Posted by: murdoc2k

while we want better hacked chips, lets not forget that if this happens then everyone could get our phones and docomo phones won't be special anymore

nah dude, dont underestimate the power of the service provider's marketing.

see, there are a lot of softbanks that have been unlocked since hacksims came out, and yet ive only ever seen one other 904 besides mine. i havent seen any DoCoMos in town, and the most numerous import phone ive seen are still 903s in the most asian part of the GVA. I go to the most populous train station and look around and see almost 7/8 of the platform is covered in Motorolas.

not everyone is willing to go through the hassle of buying and using hacksims, especially when DoCoMos dont get hyped up (marketed) outside japan. yes people went through the hassle of using hacksims for the iPhone, but only because that phone was hyped up from the moon and back. The DoCoMos losing its uniqueness is the least of a phone buyer's worries.

Depends where you are. If you're in north America it might be better. Here in toronto, I can assure you that there's a mature group of Chinese people that are very hyped about Japanese stuff. In fact, we have a mall dedicated to Chinese/Jap stuff. If you walk into that mall it has at least 3-4 different stores just selling phones.

In Hong Kong or China the situation is even worse with everyone wanting to get Docomo phones lol.. It's hard to keep uniquness when you're in Asia, but in Canada, I can foresee that the number of docomo phones appearing will soon be on the rise.

I feel that the public just isn't well informed enough about these phones yet, but I think I've seen on local chinese magazine talking about softbank and Docomo phones. It will only be a matter of time before they find out it's unlocked.

Posted by: aw614

most of the unique stuff people have is the more expensive nokia, SE and samsung.

but I know someone else with a 920sh at school,

Posted by: riel

Pacific Mall really make my phones less unique I must say.

Posted by: aw614

gotta go to somewhere where there are less chinese people...like where i am at, haha

Posted by: lifesuk

get a Win then you are totally unique lol

exactly what I was thinking of.

here in southern california i have only seen ONE other person (havent met sclaz or pocky) with a keitai and that was a red 903sh at this japanese arcade i regularly go to. what i have seen i think are N95. i recently have seen a handful of them at my college. the other ppl have been using nokia/SE

Best bet is to find an English teacher/ short term visitor/worker in Japan who is only staying for a year, they tend to sell them in the Metropolis magazine classifieds.

Basically they are doing a runner from the contract and will either keep the phone as a camera or leave it with a mate to use over here in Japan.

Working in clubs you get so many phones left behind and many dont come back to collect, I have an old Sharp 904sh and had lost it but luckily someone had left their new model 904sh (same model but a few cosmetic changes) at my friends club, they didnt come back for it and so after a month he gave it to me, meanwhile I found my lost phone and so i now have 2!!. And I can just swap the sim cards and use whatever one I want, older one for all night parties, newer shiny one for nice dinner parties

I believe that's correct. =(
I was in Japan for 2 weeks (just got back) and also browsed some phones in Akihabara. My friend helped me asked the associates there about getting the phones w/o contract .. and they said that it's not possible and that EVERY phone purchased must have a contract. =(
