Couple quick questions. I read that you need to change the APN to internet2.voicestream.com on the EDGE settings, but when I opened Safari and tried to access a page, it would say you aren't subscribed to EDGE. So I changed it to wap.voicestream.com and it worked fine. However, will I be losing any functionality or performance by using wap.voicestream.com? I have the 19.99 Total Internet plan with Hotspots if that makes any difference. Also, does texting work right out of the box or do I need to change settings for that? Thanks.

Depends on what internet plan you have. The 5.99 plan uses an APN of wap.voicestream.com, I think the 19.99 plan uses internet.___.com

I couldn't get my 5.99 plan working until I went in to installer - 1.1.1.3 tweaks and installed the tzones tweak.

Edit: Sorry, I just read what plan you have... not sure that my solution will help you.

I have the Blackberry Unlimited Add-on ($19.99) for data and I use wap.voicestream.com for the APN. It works perfectly with full functionality. You shouldn't lose anything because they're basically the same plan in terms of data ... I simply kept the same plan when I got my iPhone and ditched my Blackberry.

As for texting, there should be no problem.

Texting will work fine.

As for the internet, if you have the total internet plan you should use "internet2.voicestream.com" (obviously without the quotes). I get much better performance using that over wap.voicestream.com.

if you have jailbroken your phone then u might need to have a patch for that but wap.voicestream.com should work just fine

I used ziPhone to unlock and install the tmobile tweak. I have the 5.99 internet plan and also install the youtube fix. still say youtube not available!!

When I put in internet2.voicestream.com and try to go to Google with Safari, I get two popups. The first says "Safari can't open the page because it can't find the server" and the second says "Could not activate EDGE: you are not subscribed to EDGE." Any ideas?

Is your iPhone automatically changing the word internet to Internet (notice the capital I). If I recall the settings are case sensitive.

I am useing the internet2 one with my iPhone. I am on the 19.99 total internet plan. Both Safari and youtube work great for me.

I would go into settings, general, reset, reset network settings, and try again.

Did you install the proxy hack?

This may be of help to you:

In the installer there are a few t-mobile zones hacks...

I used this one from the Bigboss Apps and Things source (sleepers.net/iphone/)

Just tried that and it didn't work. Still getting the same error popups. And no, I haven't installed any proxy hacks.

Also, internet3 didn't work either

I'm having the same issue. internet2.voicestream.com doesn't work, but wap.voicestream.com does. I have the BB unltd plan from T-Mob.

I'm in the same boat as you guys. I have the blackberry plan and the internet.voicestream.com wont work, however the wap.voicestream does. Any ideas?

Guys - if you have the BlackBerry Data plans then you will not have access to either the internet2 or internet3.voicestream.com APNs. Those are only for people on the "Total Internet Add-on" (not the BlackBerry one).

Internet2 will probably be faster on your iPhone if you switch over to it rather than the BlackBerry plan, but will prevent you from being able to do push e-mail on a BlackBerry (if you swap your SIM back and forth). If you need to switch back-and-forth, your stuck using the wap.voicestream.com APN - sorry.

Internet3 is NOT RECOMMENDED. This is called the Total Internet Data Add-On FOR VPN. The VPN (internet3) APN exposes your device directly to the internet with a PUBLIC IP address. This has a number of side effects - the worst of which is it will destroy your battery life due to constant internet chatter hitting your phone's IP and making the radio run all of the time, secondly you won't be protected by a firewall which means you would need to put a firewall on the phone otherwise risk getting your device hacked into.

i recently changed mine to the 9.99 plan they have now to tzones, it is slower on email sends but id rather save the extra $10.00 per month.

I have a slightly different problem. I'm using T-Mobile 19.99 Total internet plan with internet2.voicestream.com settings and everything works perfectly except... "locate me" function on google maps. It worked for a day or two in the beginning and showed great accuracy, but not anymore. Now it just gives me "your location could not be determinated" message.

When it worked, I liked so much better than navizon and i want it back.

BTW, i used ziphone to unlock my iPhone and FW is 1.1.4

Anybody knows how to fix this?

I have 2 iphones, one was a rebuilt from AT&T, it was originally sold 6/29. After unlock, etc with iPlus it would not work with internet2 and the Total internet add-on. It worked great with wap.voicestream.

The second iPhone was sold in March this year and unlocked, etc with iLiberty+. It works with internet2. Both are 1.1.4.

When I spoke with TMO level 3 data support, the indicated SOME iPhones will not work with internet2 and the Total add-on.

It seems that the older hardware just won't be as likely to work with internet2. Although they are equally fast and everyting seems to run the same.

YMMV.

That sounds pretty valid though, since the iPhone I'm using is one of the refurbished ones AT&T was selling about a month ago with a really early build date (hell, it even came with 1.1.1 installed). Guess I gotta live with wap.voicestream.com

i tried internet2 vs. wap and seems wap is faster using v3.0 fw is 1.1.4 am i doing something wrong or should i just stick with wap thanks.

ok heres my problem.

new replaced iphone by apple under warrenty, unlocked with iPlus2.0b, called tmobile this morning at about 8am changed plan from sidekick data to 19.99 unlimited internet plan, and it is now almost 12 and still dont have internet. im using internet2.voicestream.com

my other iphone was unlocked with ziphone and the internet worked fine, so is there some kind of patch needed if unlocked with iplus?

That means they signed you up for the VPN Internet package at $19.99. I'd call back and switch to the Non-VPN version as it will suck down your battery less and give you better protection from hacking on the Internet.
