Well I just bought a new 8gig iphone...it has firmware 1.1.4 and bootloader 3.9...want to use it with tmobile....is this phone basically all set so I can use it with either one of these programs?? Which would be the easiest??

never tried the iplus method. I would recommend ziphone

I used iPlus 2.0b last night to unlock etc. Seemed to work fine and I can now use my T-Mobile SIM. My iPhone was 1.1.1 so I restored it to 1.1.4 via iTunes first.

Ziphone is very popular but some people say iPlus is better.

why is that?

Posted by: alex76_19

Well since my phone already has the 3.9 bl I really wont have to worry about ziphone downgrading it, correct??

When you say you bought a new 8 gig phone, as in from the Apple store or somewhere else because all iPhones since 112 ship with bootloader 4.6. So I am wondering how your's is 3.9.

With bootloader 3.9 it doesn't really matter, you can use either iPlus or Ziphone. However if you have a new iPhone or bootloader 4.6 the best way to unlock is to use iPlus 2.0B.

Well I did buy it from an apple store about 4 days ago..as for the version BL I have...Im basing that on the method used by looking at the serial# on my phone..(week 10).

Posted by: Rodville

Week 10 is in the new year and it should be 4.6. And based on what I have been reading up on is that iPlus would be easier to go back to 4.6 later on.

i used iPlus and everything works...for now.

I see..thanks for correcting me on that...well looks like ill wait for iLiberty+..it sounds like its gonna be the the best all in one solution with the least amount of problems.

dumb question, but why does it matter what bootloader the phone has? is one better than the other? if so, how do I know what bootloader is on the phone?

the reason I ask is because I've got a refurbed iPhone coming in the morning and I would like to know what to look for.

I have two 1.1.4 iPhones. One has the 3,.9 bootloader and other 4.6. I used ziphone to unlock and jailbreak the 3.9 and used iPlus to do the same with the 4.6. I have no problems at all with either one. I installed over 40 apps on both with no problems. Customize, Summerboard, Swirly, SMSD, NES etc. They all work perfectly.

iplus is alot better and ISNT stolen code...

when iliberty+ comes out....all of you will be using it...

There is nothing dumb about it. Infact its critical. If he bought a new phone from Apple then he doesn't have bootloader 3.9, so now he knows. There, somebody just got the facts, does that look dumb to you? That's important. Because using Ziphone will downgrade his bootloader. That's also something he should know, the the whole point of forums and discussions, so people are informed and can make informed decisions.

Since some people on BL3.9 seems to hell bent on not clarifying issues because it doesn't matter to them, newbies are using Ziphone and downgrading bootloader without knowing the facts. There is nothing wrong with 3.9 if you had 3.9, but downgrading from 4.6 to 3.9 doesn't make sense, especially now with iPlus and its as simple and works well. No point discovering the bootloader issue after unlocking, is there? Let's have some honesty here.

A lot of this information is incorrect. People can only make informed decisions if the information provided them is accurate.

If you have BL 4.6 and want to software-unlock your phone, you must downgrade to 3.9. There is currently no (known/released) way around that. So if you want an unlocked phone, downgrading to 3.9 makes perfect sense.

Ziphone and iPlus will both downgrade 4.6 BL phones to 3.9. The only difference being that iPlus downgrades to a different variation of 3.9 (known as "Fake Blank" or FB). The primary difference being that the latter is software-reversible.

"A lot of this information is incorrect."

You just quoted me and didn't point out the inaccurate bit, can you clarify what exactly you are talking about?

This is not about downgrading, this is about a reversible way to get back to 4.6 if necessary, we are not talking of the merits of 3.9 here, just reversible downgrade of bootloader which iPlus gives you, 3.9 can't be upgraded, 3.9Fb can so it's 'not just 3.9'.

With iPlus there is no reason to use Ziphone because its always better to have a reversible option, no point closing doors is there?

Wasn't there a poster here who got a defective phone on day one and had used Ziphone and was worried about getting his phone replaced. At least upto 2 weeks after buying an iPhone there is possibility you can get it exchanged at an Apple store on various ruses incase you are unlucky enough to get a hardware defect, and people have been getting those, bad screens, bad audio, if you unlock with iPlus, you have a reversible way to get back to 4.6 if necessary. With Ziphone you are stuck and will likely to turned away from Apple if they discover 3.9 on a phone which was sold with 4.6. That's the difference between 3.9 and 3.9FB. The rest is the individual unlockers call but now he is informed.

You didn't mention anything about 3.9FB in your first post, making it sound like iPlus does not downgrade the bootloader and that a downgrade from 4.6 is not required to unlock the iPhone.

Posted by: raulbe

You are being disingenuous here, this is not a tutorial, this is about why iPlus is better than Ziphone in that its a reversible solution for 114 and if you see my post history you will see I have been clarifying the bootloader issue with iPlus and 3.9FB for a long time now for new unlockers so they can make informed decisions.

But I am getting tired now of saying the same thing in over 10-20 posts now. I think there is sufficient information and its now for newbies to search and get the right info.
