BB 8820 Discontinued?

After selling my Crimson 8310 for (another) iPhone, which I quickly recognized as a huge mistake...I am using a really great phone (Moto V9), but I am seriously leaning back toward another BlackBerry. I called both of my local AT&T corporate stores to ask about pricing on the 8820...only to find that they had pulled the 8820 from the stores, and I was told it was discontinued!!!

When I called AT&T business services, they said they had no clue as to what was going on...and gave me an "Exception" upgrade to either the 8310 or 8820 when I was ready.

What's going on with the 8820...is a new BlackBerry coming along for AT&T?

Its still avaiable in my area of NY. They may be updating the OS on upcoming stock (maybe) and the rumored 9000 series isn't due until summer time per the rumor mill. So it could also be clueless sales CSR and sales.

I still see it available online and though it's not brand new, the 8820 isn't near the end of its life at all ... T-Mobile is just about to RELEASE it. I would think AT&T stores would still have it ... call a different one. I'm almost positive it's still current.

You'll pay $500 at retail, though.

I can see one clueless sales rep...but the fact that two different reps at two completely seperate corporate AT&T stores here locally that I visit frequently would give me exactly the same story...that is odd.

I called back the two stores today, and spoke to a manager at the largest of the two. He affirmed that the 8820 was on their "end of life" sheet...as was (drumroll...) the Curve!! He even went back to the stock room and reported that all the 8820's had been taken out of their stock area...

The young lady i spoke to at the second one, after asking her manager there, echoed what the manager at the first store said. She also verified that they no longer carried the 8820.

Could the demise of the 88xx BlackBerry, at least at AT&T be the sign of another BlackBerry hitting soon...?

If that is truly happening, then RIM must have a new flagship device ready to launch at WES but thats not until June so what are they doing?

On the ATT site in the business section they are still selling the 8820, but they also have the "new" 8120 Pearl and the old Pearl too plus the older 8700. So if the are dead product why would the web site be last to update?
