Need advice. Should I switch to Blackberry?

I am currently using a Nokia N73 and have been using S60 for ages, I love it, I think it's the best phone operating software I have ever used.

BUT, I am thinking of moving over to a blackberry 8310 Curve because of the unlimited internet and email that is bundled with it (I'm from south Africa, we have unlimited internet only with the blackberries). I have never used a Blackberry before and there isn't a store nearby to play around with it.

My questions are the following, is it a good idea to move from S60 to blackberry? What will I loose (compared to say, N73)? Would you recommend it? Is it a wise move? Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

It's all going to be preference on this one. Unlimited data does make a huge difference. You will be able to use Instant Messengers / BB Messenger (if you know others w/ a BB, Unlimited email, Great browsing experience w/ Opera mini, and also QWERTY keyboard.

I can't really speak on the side of what you'd be losing though as I haven't used an s60 device in 2 years.

I can't compare since I haven't used an S60 or N73. Does your carrier offer you a return period on new devices like they do in the US? If so, I'd say just take the Blackberry out for a spin and see for yourself.

You'll lose the great camera. and if you will be connecting to a company BES, you MAY lose the ability to install programs.

The homescreen on the BB is limited in terms of what you can do/put on it. Not that many plugins (if at all) on the BB for the homescreen. you are limited to the 3 or 4 types of themes for the homescreens.

I had the N73, great phone and form factor. The curve will be wider because of the qwerty but if do a lot of sms/emails, you will benefit.

I'd suggest you read, read and read... and then decide which device is best for you.

I can put any picture I want on the background of my pearl...

It took me about a good week to get used to my pearl.. .when I first got it, I couldn't stand it, I was a windows mobile guy before that, so everything took a while to get used to, but once I did, I'm in love with it :P

It's very customizable, the email is godly, and its just so easy to call/text/email people.

i was a n95 user and you will lose video recording and podcasts.

most apps on the blackberry try and push carrier data services whereas series 60 you have a genuine choice of networks wifi etc.

if it was not for email i would not have switched to BB 8320.

The only reason I wont leave my E90 is because it's the only S60 device that offers best of both the worlds. S60's apps + bb connect for push email. I'm quite happy with that.

The only reason I would move to BB is for basically attachment handling. BB connect sucks in that department.

OS4.5 allows video recording, of coz if you compare it to N73 the camera quality of the Curve is inferior.

By going for BB, you get a better communicating device since the qwerty keyboard and the im service + emails, you lose the huge number of choices of programs and games (but I doubt you will install a lot of programs and games on BB since the amount of internal memory is very limited and you cant install them on sd card) and better camera that N73 has.

IMO, unlimited internet wins.

I'd check out the upcoming E71.

Can't answer about the other phone but I haven't look back since getting my 8320 Curve.
I use it more than any phone I have had. Good luck with your decision.

Not necessarily true! It depends upon the IT Policies set by the Admin. THe admin can restrict installation of ALL applications, or a specific listing of applications, or ones that fit a certain criteria. I've worked in an environment even assisted users installing many corporate & consumer applications on BES 4.1 SP2/3/4. However, most Corporate BES setups will to some extent restrict personal application installations.
