Cheap way to unlock my SE W580i ?

Hello,

I just bought SE W580i which is locked to AT&T/Cingular (USA). Since I'm not AT&T customer, I need to unlock that phone.

Looking for cheapest (possibly free) way to unlock. Found few unlock services on eBay for $14.

Anything better ?

FYI: Buy a unlocked phone! If you are not a expert at flashing/unlocking it is a BIG waist of time! and you risk killing your phone. I recently bought a nice Sony K800i it is now on Ebay after 2 weeks and many hours of work still to have an usless locked phone. I now will look ONLY for unlocked phones!! I am an engineer and work with computer hardware and software on a daily bases.. and found unlocking very difficult if you do not have prior experiance.. you will soon find most of the forums will not help NEWBEES.. only experts or pro's, so sell you phone or pay to have it unlocked!

Don't mean to sound offensive but I am no pro and following the instructions from the link above helped me immensely and job done.

I do have one question for anyone:

When I put in various sims my phone will try to download what I think will be the MMS and WAP settings. Should I let it do this or do I cancel? I have been cancelling thinking it might lock the phone again.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

1. If the phone doesn't have the right WAP setting, it can't download anything. So I am not quite sure it's asking for permission to download MMS/WAP setting
2. It is extremely unlikely that your phone can be locked again by downloading anything, or by receiving anything from your provider.
