I am bout to purchase a new camera phone and have focused in on these two. I am located in the Charlotte, NC area so signal should'nt be an issue with both phones having the 850 and 1900 bands. I've read there are some issues with the touch keys on the K850i and their are also issues with the K790a joystick. Is the camera on the K850i that much better than the K790a? I've had a w810i and currently have a w710i as well as the AT&T Tilt. Main things that I'm interested in are call quality, camera, and A2DP. I know the battery on the K790a is rated at twice that of the K850i and it can be bought for about $150 less. Is the joystick really that big of an issue? Have they resolved it? Any help/opinions on these are welcomed. Thanks in advance!!

K790a
- Good overall phone (Used it for 8 months)
- Joystick started acting up 3 months into the usage. Some times it would only stop working in one direction and other times it stopped working entirely making the phone virtually impossible to navigate through. Sometimes it stopped for just seconds to minutes or sometimes for the entire day. It was quite a bother.
- Camera is good

K850i
- Just got the phone (Used for 1 week)
- When I got it i had to immediately debrand the thing since the branded firmware made the phone SO SLOW!! It took the phone at least 30 seconds to boot up and sometimes when navigating through the menus was laggy. Fixed after I got it debranded.
- Camera, to me is better then the k790a (Im not to camera buff... just eying the difference)
- Quite wide compared to the K790a
- Soft key issue isn't that bad for me. I only have to press them 1-3 times for them to respond... its not much of a hassle.
- Texting for the first few days was soo painfull due to the placing of the keys but im starting to get used to it.

I only paid 325 for the K850i and sold my K790 for $130. Only "really" only paid $195 for the K850i so i think it was worth the upgrade. Just my opinion. I may get flammed for it but w.e

XxXSnake23XxX, WIDE??? No way and I'm a girl!

I'm also surprised you think the K850i camera is better, others think otherwise. I will say do NOT use red-eye reduction for auto indoor pictures or they come out REALLY dark. After I turned that off, the quality of the photos went WAY up.

The early 790's did have the problem with joysticks . Iv had a few of them (new and old) apart -- they changed the joystick in the later models. Iv had mine for 6 months or so and its a good phone. Personally i would take an 850if the price was rite, but looking at the potential problems (look at that monster of thread) in not gonna shell out 500 bucks for that phone. Im happy with the 790a as my camera phone.

K790a gets my vote.

The phone is very mature FW-wise, and like Matts said, the joystiq issue is mostly a thing of the past. I also think the K790's camera is better in many situations, and for $250, you can't get a better camera phone. IMO, the K850 has been a disaster for SE given the high expectations that were placed on it -
