Razr V3c

I have a spare Razr that was used on the AllTel system. I have activated it on Verizon, but it does not work properly. Specifically it shows that the phone is roaming when it should be in the extended network, it shows it is in the extended network the rest of the time. I tried to get Verizon to upgrade the software, but they wouldn't ("it's an Alltel phone"). What I am trying to do is install verizon software on it. From there I am hoping to enable some of the disabled features, but first things first. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

You'd have to load the correct PRL on to it and do the appropriate SEEM edits, assuming you have the software to do it. But why would you want the Verizon UI anyway? I'd suggest using the generic firmware.

I just want (need) the phone to work on their system. Where do I get the PRL?

Try *228. I can't guarantee it will work, so if it doesn't, get your PRL here. Look under your service provider/area.

You don't have to have Verizon's software on the phone to get it to work on their network, but it's easier, I suppose. You COULD have left it on the Alltel firmware, and possibly have Get It Now and MMS working, but I don't know much about that. I'd ask around anyway, since considering how a lot of us here feel about Verizon's firmware, some people may know how to do it.

Thanks for all your help lord. I really dont care about get it now or mms, but I dont want to get charged as roaming when I shouldnt. Maybe I should try just changing the PRL and leave the software alone?

As hard as it seems to believe, the problem with the phone (Alltel phone on Verizon) doesnt appear to be a PRL issue. I just checked and the PRL version is 50960 which is the one put on there via *228 in January. I guess the only thing left to try is to change the software. Is that right?

I think it worked. I flashed it with your generic software and the oraming icon disappeared. I say "think" becasue the real test will be when I am in northern Maine...we'll see if it roams or stays on the verizon extended network. Thanks for all your help lord!!! Any ideas why I could use MPT to restore my backed up contacts list (backed up from a different V3c? Thanks again!!

If you're using Verizon, I have no idea whether or not it will roam or stay on network, but I do know that Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Cingular/AT&T share towers somewhat, since they're the cellular giants in this industry, and their coverage areas easily overlap. Sometimes if you're roaming, and you REALLY need to make a call, you could try *228, but I don't ever use it if I'm using my own settings, as that could mess it up.

MPT is a pain to use for contacts and whatnot. PST can easily back up your contacts with little or no issues. The only thing I have yet to figure out how to do is back up my messages, but that's not really an issue.

For all your help!! MPT is a pain for most things. It was odd with this phone, *228 always worked (the PRL was very recent for Verizon before I flashed it), and it works fine now too. Only this is no get it now, but I have never used it anyway. Basicly an inoperable phone now works. thanks so much.

I went to NY yesterday. As soon as I cross the border from CT the phone went into extended service mode (the flashing triangle). So I am comparing the details between it and my "verizon" v3c. The only differences that I see is this

VZW AT
ERI 4 0
Channel 850/1900 800/1900
Network Automatic A Automatic

Are any of these things a cause of the issue? Can they be changed?

bwhahahahahha are you serious?? you do realize that t-mobile and att are gsm while vzw and sprint are cdma and will never roam on the others towers since the 2 technologies are not compatible.

to the OP, what vzw plan are you on? the nationwide includes nationwide calling, therefor no roaming charges.
