iPhone Texting not working

Not entirely sure where to start off, but I guess I'll put it in the Unlocking forum since my phone is unlocked. My phone can not receive texts for some reason. It was restored to 1.1.4 and unlocked via iPlus. So, now what I'm trying to figure out is why it is not receiving texts.

1. Customer rep told me that Medianet comes with 200 text messages, is this true or false? If it doesn't, does my phone automatically block off my incoming messages? Because I might have to go back to ATT store to get text messaging back if it doesn't have it. (I use to have text, but rep told me I didn't need it since Medianet has it)

2. Is there an option on my phone that turns off receiving of text messages? If there is, where is it?

3. Did unlocking mess up my texting on my phone? Or have noone had problems with this?

1. As of January, only those that had the older MediaMax, PDA, and other data plans have integrated messaging. iPhone data plans are basically the old MediaMax plans without MMS (seen this in previous posts and in the receipt of changes between iPhone plans today).
The newest data plans have no messaging, but are cheaper.
How much are you paying for the data plan? This will determine if you have messaging.
If you don't have messaging, your phone will not turn off messaging force pay per use (which is around $.15/message now) if you don't buy a messaging plan.

2. No option on the phone itself will turn off messaging on the phone. It has to be done on AT&T's side and transmitted to the SIM.

3. Why did you unlock it for use by AT&T??? Unlocking and hacktivating are two completely different things. You basically did overkill on iPlus by unlocking just for AT&T. That said, it's possible, but pretty unlikely, that the unlock screwed up the texting abilities on the phone. I bet it isn't phone related though.

I'm paying $15 for Medianet. But I did find it a little weird that the guy assured me that I would be getting text messaging along with the MediaNet. Will they give me a hard time trying to add text messaging back?
Also, I don't receive anything when someone texts me. I saw someone post that the phone asks if I would accept the charges, but my phone did not show me a message like that at all.
And I figured since I'm was using iPlus and it is all automatic that I might as well unlock just in case for the future. Since my phone was refurbished, it did not really matter if my BL was downgraded anyways..

I see.

Yep, you have the data plan that doesn't include messaging. Messaging is going to be separate in cost ($5 for 200 messages, $10/1500, $20/unlimited), and it shouldn't be a problem adding a messaging plan if you want one (you might even be able to do it online/OLAM). That was why the messaging and data plans were separated, to give people choices on if they want data but not messaging or vice-versa.

I would make sure they haven't disabled messaging on your line, as it might be a possible issue. I know those I have attempted to text before [with disabled messaging] never see the message or questioning the user to accept the charges.

well, since I have a iPhone displayed on my account as the phone I'm using, OLAM disabled changing features online. So I was curious whether or not a store rep would give me a hard time if he notices that I'm using an iPhone without the iPhone package..

I wouldn't think so, but it's possible.

If you're worried about it that much, then swap the SIM into another phone you have for a day or so (overnight, etc). Then it'll show up as the registered phone and you can do changes via OLAM or at a rep store without worry.

yea, i was thinking about that just in case. Don't really want more problems as it is. But just wanted to see if anyone would know for sure, so I wouldn't have to be switching things around.
