Stereo setups?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I just got this 1970 Datsun 240Z and im trying to decide what what stereo set up would work the best. I think im probably just going to put in new mids and i head unit, but maybe some subs. Im not sure because im afraid the sub will make my car fall apart (its old). What types of set ups do you guys have? Thanks.

get a pair of Ten's and a amp.
oh and some good tweets

you don't need a pair of subs. One good sub is all you need. Plus one good sub will sound better, and cost you around the same amount as 2 cheaper subs.

if you're concerned with space, get 1 sub. Dual subs will generally get you an additional 3db+, but some single sub setups can sound louder than dual subs depending on brand and what type of box they'll go in. Generally ported boxes are louder than sealed, but sealed sound tighter and are generally for hard rock music. If you like rap and hip hop, ported boxes are the way to go. Avoid bandpass boxes (big in the 80's) because they're so critical in terms of space and how they're built. They should be built around your sub which is why the prefab bandpass boxes sound like crap

I've got a kenwood 8103D mono amp powering 2 Hifonics 12" 4ohm svc 350rms watt subs in a dual ported box. They're fine for right now. Got a kenwood KDC-X492 head unit

You should make all your system Kenwood, or Pioneer.

I think Pioneer is the best. Everything in my "system" is Pioneer except for my sub, and my system sounds fantastic. I have one 10" sub and it is more than enough. There is no need for 2 or more huge subs, just a waste of money and space. You'll definately want to get a sub though.

you should probably then look for either 3 way coxials or components if you don't want to add a sub.

But if you're concerned with space, there are fantom sub enclosures where they are custom to your specs and still leave you with adequate trunk space. Of course the subs that would only fit in those boxes would have to be those shallow or slim subs which don't put out deep rich bass...decent bass though

Thanks for the info guys. I think i know what im going to do now.

motorsport auto has some custom 6*9 enclosures for your car...mb quart has good speakers, rainbow if you can find them are good, if you get a sub go with a single jl audio w1v3.. nice sub for a car your size...motorsport may also have someheadunits you may like
