Blackjack II or Pantech Duo???

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Ok I have a Pantech Duo right now and I absolutely love the keyboard, but it seems so much more limited then my old 8525 I had-even though that phone gave me issues. I haven't had any hardware or software issues with the phone and I've enjoyed it other than the mini screen so far.

I like the fact that the BJ2 has wi-fi and built in GPS. Is the BJ2 really a better phone though? Would you recommend it? One thing I miss is being able to tether my phone to my mac like I could with my 8525. I just hated the size of the 8525.

Also, any females own the Samsung BlackJack II?

Whoa, the BlackJack II doesn't have Wi-Fi. May want to take that into effect. Only real hardware differences between the BlackJack II and Duo are GPS.

really? WOW. Thanks for letting me know. Well, then there's really no need to upgrade.

Ok, sounds good. I may get the BlackJack II at some point for GPS, we'll have to see.

I asked this question a while back. Actually I was comparnig the BJII, Duo and Tilt. I ended up ordering a Duo and hated it from day 1. I just got my new BJII today!! Mind you I was coming from a BJ 1, however my frustrations were:

1) Cheapo construction. It feels like something you would get out of a vending machine. Keyboard would slide out in my pocket all the time. I dropped my BJ1 a million times with no adverse consequences. Maybe I was just lucky but I think Samsung definatley has an edge on build quality.

2) Hated the keyboard. There are a lot of symbols that are not on the keyboard by default and you have to go to the symbols menu. Really annoying. That and I would fat finger a lot. Suffers from lack of keys. I found myself having to use buttons that were on the face, but not on they keyboard (ie Home button) It could also benefit from a mail button.

3) Screen too small. I do alot of online reading and I have perfect vision. Still many pages were near impossible to read. The screen was just too small in general. If you look at the thing, they definatley could have increased it.

4) BATTERY LIFE IS GARBAGE. I could not get through half a day. Rather than warn you 10-15 minutes before it dies, it just dies. I had it die without notification missed many calls and emails becasue I thought it was still on.

5) Can't disable 3g. See #4. I was trying to disable it to save battery life, and searched forever on how to do it to no avail.

6) 3g stopped working. I finally returned when it actually stopped functioning in 3g mode. I called ATT a million times, swapped SIM cards, did everything but replace it. When in 3g, with full bars, I got no voice, got no data. Edge would work fine, so I'd actually have to find places where it would switch to Edge to make/place calls. Worst. Phone. Ever.

I didnt buy a Duo and this is why. When I picked it up and played around it with it, I felt like it was some sort of childs toy. Amazingly bad construction. I dont think it even belongs in the same converastion with the BJ2.

#'s 2-4 were my biggest issues. The battery life was horrible and there generally just isnt a whole of support for the duo these days.

on the PLUS side, Duo's ICS works out of the box and I had to spend about 2 hours getting it to work on my new BJII. (thanks to chudy!)

Here's an article in the news I was just notified of:

KTVB.COM

BOISE - Some cellular phone users across Idaho are experiencing issues with their service today – due to an equipment malfunction.

Customers of AT&T Wireless, Sprint and others may be having problems with their phones, after a switch between Boise and Salt Lake City operated by Level 3 Communications stopped working.

“Some customers have no service all together, some are OK, and some have degraded service,” Vanessa Smith with AT&T Wireless said.

Right now Smith said there is no estimated time to restore service – but technicians are working to solve the problem and get the cell phone networks back up and running. Service has been out for several hours. It's unknown how many customers are affected.

NewsChannel 7 has calls out to Level 3 to better understand the nature of the problem.

My previous post ended up in the wrong thread. My apologies.

I think the price on the phone itself and the services for it should not be so high. I think it would be a great device to put into the market to compete against the likes of the Rumor and other carriers text oriented dumb phones. It's more of a phone with a neat factor and not a phone with a great functionality factor.

It's the kind of device that with it's slide capabilities you can wow your friends and coworkers who are on other carriers. Especially those that are into texting or think a touch screen is to die for. I was thinking of getting it for this to supplement my N95-3 to keep from banging it up at work. But, it costs too much for its actual worth from when I played with it in the store.
