Actually, in the original article on iPod observer, 3G was mentioned, along with an OLED display. I'm really thinking it may not be too too long before it's released. There is a shortage of iPhones in quite a few stores. Whatever, it does arouse my curiosity.

i got the ver 1 iphone, and i thinking of getting another one, but i'll just wait for the second version, hopefully it's hackable.

You can forget about OLED displays. Not going to happen anytime soon, way too expensive. Also dont see 3G before the years end. Remember ATT has to expand its network. I see a 32 gig one jumping on board with the launch of 2.0.

Heard it on the news. Apple ordered 10 million units. 3G, slimmer design and better battery life was the highlights of the new phone.

Makes me wonder if this second gen iPhone with 3G is slated for the canadian market since the only GSM carrier here (Rogers owns Fido) is 3G.

What's the status of T-Mo's US 3G network?

i hope apple doesn't do anything that makes it hard to hack, but still hackable.

Remember, The USA is not the only country where Apple is trying to sell cell phones. And in some of the markets they are trying to enter, the 3G coverage actually covers more area than EDGE coverage - and O2 had to effectively "retrofit" EDGE back into their networks, if I remember correctly.

Quote:
Keys revealed that the company has had to make a multi-million pound investment in EDGE and is part way through a nationwide rollout. There will be around 30 per cent Edge coverage on the O2 network by the 9 November launch date, with eventual nationwide coverage planned.

? Do you mean in some of the smaller cities? Just curious because I'm in Seattle and there is no problem with 3G and I don't think that is holding Apple back at all. I was surprised when the last one came out that they STILL had not implemented 3g. Once they release it, then I'll finally pick one up. I've got a slingbox, so that's been the deal breaker for me. I guess I'll be stuffing that tax rebate check in the savings account and forget about it until the phone comes out.

3G and the SDK have me drooling for an iphone...finally. I hope the future is a bright for this rumor as it seems.

*crosses fingers for GPS & maybe a camera upgrade*

i hope this is a quad band 3G iPhone...

What's ironic is, if Verizon had picked up the iPhone, it would have surely had 3G from the beginning.

None of this BS about battery or lack of coverage.

and Verizon UI on it as well

So, what are all of you 3G lovers going to say when it finally comes and your battery life drops by 50%?

The same power complaint applied when EDGE first came along. And I'm sure when you are using a 3G phone, you will complain about it when 4G comes along.

So it goes. The wheel of progress

Verizon doesn't change the UI's on their smart phones.

It is what it is. If you're battery constrained you can always force GSM/EDGE instead.

Exactly if 3g really does sap the battery that much we can save it only for when we need to surf heavily. I mean we all live with our laptops right, 802.11g, full brightness, and not plugged in.... same idea.

Enough to ensure that it will be a successful model. Im sure they want like 75% 3g coverage before Apple will "allow" them to sell it

Heck, there was only 20% EDGE coverage in the UK when it was released for them.

Because their network is mainly 3G. They had to backwards build their network to accommodate the iPhone. Hence the reason that the UK is most likely the worst for sales of any of the countries that carry it. Although they do offer 7500 wifi locations to make up for it. Can't pull crap like that over here, especially with the price drop back lash, and non-user replaceable battery..Americans are sue happy and will stop at nothing win a lawsuit.
