What is the best FREE instant messenger for a Windows Mobile 6 device (smartphone). I had a blackberry and JiveTalk was the best. I loved how fast it was and easy and nice to work with. Are there any free ones for the windows mobile phones as well??

Wirelessly posted (have hope! : Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.2; U; Series60/3.1 NokiaN95-3/11.2.009; Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 ) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413 UP.Link/6.3.1.17.0)

agiele (i know i spelled that wrong) was great on my i930 but i think its a pay one...but mine for some reason never stopped working after the trial so u might wanna give it a try . Good luck

I've recently started using a service called Palringo. It's free, and (at least a decent basic version) will always be free as far as I know.

Apparently they focused on multimedia messaging, but it has a low enough memory footprint and it works very well on my phone.

Jivetalk is available in an alpha test version for WM6. A friend has it with his touch and he is in love with that program. Me? I bought Agile for wm3 on my i930. Its eally personal preference. Slick is also really good, octro is nice Eqo is awesome. fring is cool, etc etc etc.

Well imo Live Messenger is the best, but on a close second place comes Palringo...

Try Slick.

Posted by: LIVEFRMNYC

Yup, Slick is the absolute best and most reliable(as good as Sidekick IM). I used to use Palringo, but now I just have it installed as a back-up IM app.

I could never get my services added in palringo on my phone for some reason. It kept telling me I was not signed in so it could not add the service. Obviously, I can't sign in unless I add the service.

When using AIM via Slick, will others see the mobile icon indicator for your screename?

Posted by: flipfone

ill have to check that out for you PapaPrem.

Posted by: flipfone

No i dont see me as being mobile while running slick. Hope that helps Papa.

you have to register to the website and sign up there and use the same username or email whatever they use to keep track of you. it took me a while to figure that out

only thing i dont like about slick is the non-updated aim version they have. the AIM they use seems to be very old because i do not receive offline messages (palgrino does) and also i cannot text using my aim (palringo also does) and for those of you that dont know, you can text using your aim and it will show from the recipient your screen name. (for cheap people like me that dont have unlimited text and want to waste it) just use their phone number as a screen name "+12223334444"

I have palringo but would like to yet slick. Does anyone have the cab file?

Thanks flipfone for the update. Anyone found any mobile Instant Messenger that shows your AIM screename as being mobile on peoples buddy list?

I second this. I have been using Palringo since I got my Q9C recently and love it. It has a small memory footprint, messages are delivered nearly instantaneous (not so with a few others I tried), and it has a clean, easy to use interface. I could not be happy with the experience so far.

+1 Palringo is by-far the best IMO.

You should give EQO Mobile a try. It also does texting and VoIP. http://get.eqo.com for downloading... http://www.eqo.com to check out the service's features.

can you explain more about it? im mainly interested in only the AIM aspect of it. is it free because im seeing "50% off" something or another. i just want to use aim because slick doesnt recognize trillian and palringo gets disconnected all too much.

sending messages through aim doesnt use test messages right? also its free download?

just search "lonely cats slick" on google search engine and it should be the first one. (search on your device)

Yes its free. The 50% off you are seeing is for out calling as it also does voIP like Skype. but try it. its pretty cool.

I am noticing with Slick that some of my contacts that are actually online / mobile, appear offline. I compared with Eqo and found 5 online contacts with their service, compared to only two online with Slick.

I have made a post in the Slick support forums as well. Very aggrevating to say the least for otherwise a great program.

yes, I never got the texts either and support is till pending...

one of those texts contains the password and no other way to get it

it might be Verizon Wireless who blocks them...

Posted by: oddsocks

+1 for Palringo also! I have Shape Services IM+ installed as a backup.

Ok I've spoken with customer support and they said they are having problems with certain carriers in trying to get the SMS thru. They are working with various providers to get the issue resolved.

Posted by: spec7

ehh dont bother waiting, eqo is no better than palringo, the sound of the instant message is horrible, it lags, and is really just a flashy version of palringo.

Posted by: flipfone

each program has its good points/bad points. palringo does filetransfers and eqo doesnt. but eqo will let you call your friends thru voIP. the list doesnt stop there either. each person is different and has different needs. so try them all. use the one that best suits you. my personal fav is Agile. thats what i use.

Posted by: gabe.camp!

Does anyone know approximately how much data is used up (per message for instance) when using Windows Live Messenger?

I think they have it sorted out, I helped a person at EQO to test a couple of gateways and we found one that works with Verizon
