Im having trouble in hooking up my gmail account to my phone. Could someone please lend some insight on this. In the settings I did the username, password, outgoing and incoming fields; which i just put gmail.com. Maybe im using the wrong URL in the incoming and outgoing fields not quite sure.

Managed to fix the problem, but now my next question is does the e-mail app always scan for new e-mail msgs? Or must i hit send and recieve everytime i get a new e-mail?

enable imap in your gmail and use the imap server settings for the incoming mail server then enable "push" on the phone in email account settings. Gmail will "push" new mail to your phone. BUT Iv had a crap shoot of luck with using push on EDGE with cingular. It locks up the data connection all the time. Maybe rodgers EDGE isnt as backed up as att/cingular.
(works great on the N95-3 tho!)
