What were you doing that caused this message?

Bought it used and inserted my sim card

Your phone is probably locked to a certain network provider, you can take it to a phone shop and have it unlocked for a small fee.

Or it was reported stolen and is now being flagged.

It is Cingular branded and I am using an AT&T SIM. Thanks for your help, artman72

My neighbor gave me an AT&T WS cellphone. The AT&T SIM in it cannot be activated at the Cingular (now AT&T) store. It doesn't work with a Cingular SIM either. My Cingular cellphone *does* work with a (new) AT&T SIM card.
Regards

even if it was flagged, or stolen, that modle phone will NOT give such message. That message means the handset is locked to a certain network, please unlock it and it should work normally.. I'm supprised not everyone has grasped the concept of sim-locked handsets yet?

hello, I understand unlocking as I unlock and repair some motorola phones as a hobby. However I am new to nokia and did not understand the message " Phone Restricted " . At the bottom of the same screen it says undo but no soft keys seem to do anything. There is also nowhere to enter an unlock code. Is there a reason that an active AT&T sim will not work in this Cingular branded phone? Thanks again for your help,artman72

If you press undo, that should allow you to enter an unlock code, but you need the code first.
