Activating a replacment BB on BES

My boss is getting his BB replaced because the USB port broke and it won't connect to pc or charge. My questions is about getting the "new" BB activated on BES. Do I have to contact who runs our BES to let them know his new PIN? Or can we just run BES activation on it and it will just take care of itself?
