Getting photos off of my BlackJack

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have alot of photos on my BlackJack, and my admin tells me the only way to download them is to attach them to emails, which of course takes a long time. Does anyone know of a way to download them directly when doing a sync with your computer, wired or wirelessly?

You can do this through the Files setting under Synchronization Settings. The files have to be in internal memory for synchronization. A Desktop folder will be created duplicating the contents of the folder on the PDA you wish to mirror. If you do not want to keep the files on the PDA, you should move them out of the mirrored folder. Set the Conflict resolution to favor the PC.

If you have a MicroSD card in the Blackjack, save them to the memory card and you can move them that way with a card reader on the PC.

Or you can set the USB mode to Mass Storage (default is Active Sync) and you can Explore the memory card on your PC via the USB cable. This may be simpler than using Active Sync to just move a few or alot of files. In USB mode, you only see the memory card and not the phones memory so they would need to be on the card to move them this way.

I do have a memory card inserted but my BlackJack won't recognize it for some reason, my admin thinks it may be because of my company's software on my BJ. The techs at the ATT store can't figure out why its not recognizing it either (it gets recognized in their phones), any suggestions there?

Also, you can open activesync, there is an "explore" button towards the top right side. When you hit that, it open a Windows Explorer that shows you files/folders on your phone. From there you can find the files on your phone and copy them to your PC. I think it defaults to My Documents folders, but if you hit the up folder key, it'll take you to the directory showing the rest of your folders on the phone.

If there is custom settings on the phone, it's probably a registry entry. I have no idea where to start looking, but it's worth it to try.

I would keep away from advice on the Admin guy because he obviously doesn't know much about Windows Mobile with the advice he gave you on moving photos. ;-) If the same card is recognize in other BJ's then it would seem to reason your BJ slot may be faulty. But just to check if your admin is correct (If it isn't too much trouble for you) I would look at hard resetting the phone back to original defaults and see that allows the memory slot to work before loading the company software.

Thanks for the suggestion, but hard resets don't change it. I've been through several hard resets due to issues with the phone, but it hasn't changed the memory card/slot issues.

i use yahoo! GO - yahoo's mobile app, along w/ a free "flickr" account-
the yahoo program is pretty cool, and this is exactly why i use it...to upload my pictures to flickr, fast and easily. once you have the yahoo go installed on your phone, you just navigate to the flickr button, it will automatically give you thumbnails of any photo's on your phone, you just checkoff the ones you want, and it will upload! you can then access flickr.com from any pc.

you can sign up here: (i think you need to have a yahoo account first?)
but its free...

http://mobile.yahoo.com/go

on that screen, just click on yellow button: Get Yahoo! Go Now

..i think it then will ask for your cell phone #, and then text you a msg
w/ install info.

you'll then need to sign up for flickr (which is very simple)

this is what i use (it seems to be pretty easy for me once i had it setup)

Download WM5storage and install it on your BJ, then activate it and plug in the BlackJack as if you were going to sync. What should happen is that it's recognized as a flash drive by Windows and allows you to copy the photos off that way.

This is weird. You can access the microSD card from the phone itself then using the camera app or file explorer yet you can't access the card from a USB card reader? What size card is this? It is possible that you are using a USB reader that is the older version that can't recognize the newer SDHC formatting of 4GB and higher.

No, see above, I can't access the SD card from the BJ. My BJ doesn't recognize the card. All the photos I take are stored in the BJ's main memory.

Try getting another MicroSD card that will work. Even if it's a 1Gig or less as maybe it has problems with a larger ones.

Either that or the company software that was loaded has disabled it from using a memory card to prevent internal espionage.

I guess you never tried the core capability of your WM phone: ActiveSync with your desktop. Once you connected (which itself can be a hassle if you have 3rd party firewalls), your phone's internal storeage will show up on your desktop Windows Explorer and you can copy any files in and out of the phone just like another drive for your PC.

I do sync with my laptop, but I've looked in My Computer during the sync and I don't see anything that appears to give me access to what's stored inside my BJ? What am I missing?

If you sync, your phone should show up as extra node on Explorer. Depending on your OS, it may be called different names. You can also explore to your phone directly in ActiveSync software.
