"IPhone 2" Quick Question

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

So do you guys think IF an IPhone 2 comes out this year, do you think apple will make current IPhone owners pay full price or do you think Apple will be nice and take off a nice percentage?

Posted by: t-bone-t

Current owners would have to pay full price for the newest iPhone. Nobody gets a discount on iPods or the latest version of their car, why would the iPhone be any different?

Agreed T-bone-t.

That being said...
I do hope they allow us to upgrade without a contract extension! Current iPhone owners should be able to get the newest version with no extension (contract ends 2 years after activation of original iPhone).

Hmm, I doubt it'll play out like that. The carriers have always been about keeping you locked in, AT&T especially. They'll give you a two year contract and a phone with a one year manufacturer's warranty so you'll need to resign if it breaks and isn't covered after that first year. I'm sure you could do what everyone does and buy one from Apple when it's released and jailbreak it.

Besides, the iPhone isn't subsidized. New and current iPhoners will all be paying the same price for new hardware regardless of their contract situation.

wishful thinking here....

wouldnt it be nice if they let us resell our original iphones to be used as refurbs and give us a credit or discount for the iphone 2s?

I think the better question is, is 3G worth paying for another iPhone? The iPhone "2" you speak of is actually an iPhone 1.5 (nothing more than a 3G addition to the current hardware). I could be horribly wrong, but as of now there's no indication of an iPhone 2, just an iPhone with 3G.

It'd be worth it.

I strongly doubt they'll just throw a 3G radio in it and call it a day. I expect them to throw even more tech in it: larger capacity options, video recording, better camera, mms, ichat, etc.

Agreed. There is no question in my mind that the Iphone 2 will have much more then the version 1.

You do realize, of course, that three of those last four can all be done in software?

The hackers have already made a video recording app, MMS app, and plenty of IM programs. So if those updates were released for iPhone 2, I'd expect they'd be available for iPhone 1 as well. I think Apple wants 1 platform out there - with slight variances on the hardware (need a GPS version? get iPhone 2... if not, get iPhone 1).

The only other hardware piece to add would be GPS. That would make every other thing a software issue. If 3G and GPS get added then the phone will be closer to their "Jesus" status.

For whatever it may be worth, NBC News in Phoenix reported, last night, the iPhone 3G June release. (posted this in one other thread but thought it might be appreciated here too).

yea they'll charge full price and probably renew/make you sign another two year extending out your contract with at&t. If you buy a car and then a year later they come out wit a new model, do you not have to pay full price? C'mon I know its april fools but jeez

yep, if 3g wasnt enough. GPS will do it for me

I know i should wait and see when it comes out but just curious, Would GPS require DATA plan?

What, nobody wants a real camera? For what's supposed to compete with the superphones out there, I think a 3.2mp+autofocus+flash would be the minimum requirement for the next iPhone.

agreed. A nicer camera would be good. I had a Sony Ericsson k790 and I sure miss the camera with xenon flash.

not if they implement it right. most GPS these days is completely free, as long as you have the 1-2GB map file

I stand corrected. I forgot about that.
