LG viewty vs. SE k850i

i cant decide which 1 to get, just say which one you would choose and why thanks

I personally do not like SEs at all, so I would say LG Viewty. However, the k850i has xenon flash. For picture comparison, I would check GSMArena's 5MP cameraphone shootout. The Viewty has video calling just like the K850i and it does have touchscreen with haptic feedback and the unique 120fps video shooting mode to slow down video into super slow-mo. It's pretty much whether you want a cameraphone that is mainly a camera first(Viewty) or a cameraphone that's a phone first(k850i). The camera features that the Viewty possesses definitely trumps the k850i IMO.

The Viewty(KU990, and the new GSM version coming, KE990) have multiple ISO settings, and the toggle on the back of the lens to switch focus. IF you get the Viewty, wait for the 850/1900 version(KE990)

definitely the viewty. the k850i is troublesome, at best.

My vote also goes to the Viewty.

i think i will go with the K850i due to it is from SE and definitely have long battery life.

i have 2 LG phones and my experiences with them its VERY POOR, recent one now, 1 yr, has 2 minutes talking time on a fully charged battery and it die on me when checking photo album. 2 thumbs down. nex phone going tobe a SE>

What? lol Your phone battery dies after 2 minutes? Either you are extremely exaggerating, or you have something defective. I've used SEs as well, and the OS is bulky and has just as many problems as any other phone *cough w580i cough*. Love that you signed up just to say that too lol.

The problem with the majority of LGs is half of the people who use them in North America, are using NORTH AMERICAN LG phones. The Korean import models have little to no problems. Every problem most TU and CU720 users experience, I don't on my KE970. A KG800 Chocolate has almost none of the problems the TG800 and VX8500 models have.

lol, i dun jus signed up to say smthing like that, i heard this forum gives good advices on getting a new phone so i joined.

THATs the ONE> from fido, LG CHOCO. 2 minutes of talking time. before that, it is LG 5450 from Telus, this one better 30 minutes of talking time on fullly charged battery.
surprised urs still functioning....

and yea prbly ur right abou my LGz, defective or jus needs another battery. but isnt fair for most of ppl. from FIDO only gives 1 yr manuf warranty and now after a yr it died. but then if i reme right, warranty dun cover battery.... shame...

p.s im not putting down ur lovely LG toys, but im jus sharing my experiences

With LG, it's a hit or miss, especially with their Black Label Series phones. They're a fashion-first phone, rather than technical specifications.

Viewty is triband GPRS/EDGE, single band UMTS/HSDPA.

K850i is quadband GPRS/EDGE, triband UMTS/HSDPA.

They both have Xenon and 5 Megpixel sensors.

K850 takes great pics but poor video.

Viewty takes great video but poor pics.

I would go K850 just for the connectivity alone.

the viewty seems to beat the k850i in pic quality in all the tests i've seen.

I say the viewty for a few reasons:

*Higher screen resolution
*120fps slow mo video taking, also capable of taking VGA @ 30 fps
*Solid Build, at least the model I played with
*Although touchscreen, easier to text than the keypad on the k850i

I've heard the K850i has problems with its touch buttons, along with creaky housing.

The only real advantage of the k850i to me is the quadband + xenon (which apparently isnt that great to begin with)

What's the difference between the KU990 and the KE990? Also, for someone who's pretty big on keeping the size low (and I currently have a w810) how's the size on one of those bad boys?

(sorry if this is considered thread hijacking...)

difference between ku990 and ke990, the ku has 3G (2100) and the ke will have the 850 band with no 3G. considering that the 3G does not work in the US ke990 might be better for american soil. also the ke990 will have a camera lens cover.

to the original threads question, i have owned both the k850i and the ku990, actually i still have both. if 3G doesn't bother you or the 850 band i would get the ku990.

the battery life on the ku990 is obviously less than the k850i, but you should be able to get at least two days without charging it and playing with it moderately. the quality of the pictures is pretty much in the beholder of the eye, some may see that the se takes better pictures, others may not. afaik most of the 5mp cameras are tied pretty close together. the video is defintely way better on the ku990 (especially with the 120fps) compared to the crap the se k850 records at. size factor, they're pretty much the same height. the viewty is slightly wider, but the k850i feels much thicker although its not that much thicker than the viewty.

the biggest thing that i feel in the difference between phones is the firmware. se has just released REsoemthingsomething, and it has fixed most of the previous bugs in the last firmware(s). the se firmware is easy to use and fast. the lg firmware is stable, but a little bit slower than the SE (this also depends on how fluid you are with the touch screeen)

hope that helps :]

That does help...but I just have a few questions. I thought some companies had 3G, like AT&T? Am I wrong with that?

And it looks pretty significantly bigger than the k850, but you said they're pretty much the same height and the viewty is just slightly wider. Are they really that similar in size?

I'm HUGE on size, no point in lugging around a big phone, and I love the size of my w810. In your opinion, do you think I'd notice a big difference with the viewty over my w810?

I just wish someone carried this phone so I could go see it <_<

Posted by: Radiux36

Yes, AT&T has 3G here in the US, but its useless if the phone doesn't support the correct frequency to pick it up. The ku990 doesn't support US 3G frequencies, AND it also lacks 2G 850mhz. In other words, I wouldn't recommend it if you plan on using that phone on AT&T/Cingular. The newly announced Ke990 version of the viewty is supposed to have 850mhz, so it would work perfectly here.

The K850i supports all 2G bands, AND all 3G bands here in the US, so you'd have everything you need right out of the box. Though if you cherish your battery life, i'd disable the 3G.

Alright, well would the KE990 be terribly more expensive than the KU990? Also, anyone have a good size comparison?

Posted by: simsimi

anyone know the retail release date of KE990?
i holded off buying the ku990 because of the cam cover but now the addition camera cover is really tempting me.
so using a KE990 would be better than using a KU990 in vancouver right?

Posted by: dbaf14

could any1 upload the korean firmware of a viewty version if available /via EFS MEDIA BUILDER Program? (link : http://ku990.co.uk )
(doesnt matter if its from CYON(LGT),KFT or SKT Provider)

that would make a lot of people happy!!!

well if you guys are compering or decided thatwhich is the better then the another one

well i will go with the SE k850i
