Hey guys im in the market for a PDA phone for Verizon. I noticed that the palm based OS treos don't support the Palm WIFI SDIO cards. Unless you use the Tungsten T5 driver. The only treo that supports it, naturally, is the Windows based treos. So....what im asking. What is faster surfing? Since the Palm based weren't designed to run the Wifi card, will that limit its speed of surfing, since the CPU speed can not keep up to the 54mbps the wifi card could except? The windows based was designed to run the wifi card, so you think it would run quicker.

On the other hand I may be completely wrong.

Some other questions...which as more software out their? Palm or window's based treos? Alot of free software?

Which one is more flexable, reliable?

I don't know about the Wifi SD card, I never used one when I used a 700wx. Palm has far more applications than Windows mobile, but WinMob is gaining. In as far as reliability, the Palm wins, IMO, judging by the ones I have used, and I've used quite a few. My 2 cents.

I would honestly go with Palm OS, but I really want one to Navigate the web using the WIFI card. I just want to know how fast they are. I do not want to pay for data, becasue I don't have EVDO really good in my area. And that is hard to compare, when I sit at my desk at night and surf at 6Mbps. Wifi would be so nice, especially when at the girlfriends house, and she HAS to cuddle up next to you when your watching a BORING movie and she falls asleep. LOL.

O another question. Does Palm OS run Internet Explorer? And out of the entire web, besides JAVA, how many pages can you you display without any types of error?

Yeah wifi would be nice, but I usually use bluetooth for all that anyway(web, email, podcast and such). I've never had a problem with speed using bluetooth. It's fast enough for what I do. My 700p runs Blazer, there's no IE for Palm. I also have Operamini installed to play with, but it's a little buggy still from time to time. You could get a Treo 650 and pick up a Enfora wifi sled. You just pop the Treo in it and off you go. I think I had read somewhere that someone actually got it to work with a 700p too, but I'm not sure.

Well, the Treo has bluetooth. I have a bluetooth adapter hooked up to a pc in my house. I connect to that pc using some software(Softick PPP), which allows be to browse the internet and get my email and such. Operamini is just another web browser for Palm. It's like Pocket IE for Windows Mobile.

Ya the thing is. Bluetooth has a max transferr speed of 723kbps. The wifi card has a max speed of 54mbps. Thats over 7 times faster. Plus you don't have to set up bluetooth on another device. It can be used anywere a hotspot is at. But.....dsl max's out at around 1mbps. (Just came to mind). But...again...the only place that I go which has that low of speed is my girlfriends house, were none of her computers have the ability to have bluetooth.

Well, to each his own. Like I said, the bluetooth connection works just fine for my needs. It's not like I'm downloading that much stuff anyway.
