Some Razr V3 questions..

I know I'm a little late in the game and all, but I just switched to my brother's old phone, the V3 (have a thing for old small phones, was using my 3rd 6100 up till now), and I'm finding an odd hole where they really shouldn't be one..

Can I really not clear all contacts from either the SIM or phone memory or set the phone book to display only either one? It was really irritating when I popped in my SIM card, transferred all contacts from SIM to phone, then realised there were now two of each name displayed in the list.. and I couldn't delete from either bank, had to go through one by one. So in the end I did a master clear

Is there a better way to do this? Will a flash with custom firmware fix this if not?

I also find iTap slightly irritating, being used to using the * key on Nokias or the down/up directional keys on SE phones to go through choices, left/right with a side scrolling selection just seems weird, and not being able to use up/down in additional to left/right when going through symbols (so many of them) is aggravating.. Any firmwares change this?

Sorry about all the fuss but I'm a big fan of SMS I've just halted a decision to buy the extreme end of SMS ease (Q9h) in favour of saving money so I'd like to squeeze more ease out of this

For the SMS, just use T9. I feel as though it is easier to use than iTap. Not sure on the SIM thing, I haven't had a RAZR in a few years. What you are saying about it sounds right though, one of the things I hate about keeping contacts on the SIM. I always keep them on the phone, and keep all of my phones synced to my Mac through Bluetooth or iSync.

It sounds like a pain, but really is much easier than messing with the SIM contacts.

T9 isn't in the option menu Just iTap, Tap and Chinese input methods.. Is T9 available by custom firmware?

T9 should be available on all phones, not only by custom firmware. Is this a provider branded/unlocked phone, or is it generic Motorola firmware (unbranded)?

Is there some other menu other than primary and secondary input where I can find T9? It's generic, cell providers don't lock phones here..

Man, I really cannot remember to be honest, it is has been years since I had one.

The only way to deal with the duplicate contacts is to erase them from one of the devices, either phone or sim card.

I do not believe Motorola phones have T9
They're all iTap I think.

Yep, but no way to do this all that one go? 'Erase all SIM contacts' or 'erase all phone contacts' for example..

It's not too bad there's not that big of a difference.
Coming from Sony Ericsson, the differences I know of are basically that the phone doesn't remember your owns words forever and sometimes it doesn't have words.

Those are the only differences I can think of.

the other work around is put all sim card contacts in one category and use the other categories for contacts.

There is no delete all for either sim or phone contacts.

Going from SE to Motorola is a difficult thing to get used to. I hate to say it, but in some apsects, SE really nails it with ease of use, to include the ability to move or delete all contacts with the press of one button.

Oh I completely agree.
It's sad fact, because my z525a was a pretty low-end entry level phone and it can do somethings that my V3xx can't.

I also remember that my z525a could manually save text messages that I wanted onto my SIM card.

But alas, there are pros and cons to both.
Like I really don't like the fact that SE only uses Memory Sticks which costs tons over microSDs.
