Ok, we use nextel at work. so I picked up this phone on ebay the one they gave us at work was a nasty bar phone (the thing was old as the hills)
any, way poped my simcard in and Nadda.. it wont get a signal..

I think I need to do a master reset on the phone, I know how to do this, but I can't find the darn menu key on this thing... I've looked at the pdf manual and still can't figure out which key gets me into the main menu, can someone help me out please...

the menu key is right above the green call button.here are the steps to do a master reset:menu-settings-advanced-connectivity-master reset-security code is 000000-ok-then press ok.the phone will power off.what do you need to do a master reset for anyway?

I'm not sure that I do, the problem I have is this..

as I stated I have a phone from work (older style phone) and my boss said I could buy another Nextel Sprint phone and pop my sim card and be good to go, so I got this phone on EBAY and I put my sim card in, but it will not find the towers.. it says No service..

no matter what I do.. if I put my sim back in my older work phone it's locks right in.

I'm thiking I'm got "taken" on the action.

Is there anything else I can try?

if your sim works in another phone,then it sounds like your radio in the i870 is bad.i would take the i870 and your sim card to an authorized service center and see if they can swap out your board.

It's very odd... It will get a signal, drop it... then get the signal agian...
Guess I shoould know better then to buy a phone on ebay

its just a bad radio.im sure the seller knew of this before selling it, one of the many problems of ebay.its no big deal, i see it numerous times a day working at a authorized service center.just take it there and swap out your board, and it will be good as new.also just an fyi, if you have anymore nextel questions/problems, post in the nextel forum,you will get more help there then in the moto forum.

Thanks I did not relize I was in the wrong fourm on this post..
anyway, after playing with the phone more, it seems if I move around I get a singal, but it still drops out.. my older phone always had a signal.. is the I870 known for having weak singal? I have not tried it at work yet, but my older phone got a singal here at home no problem.. this one, it depends where I"m at.. I walked out side it was fine.. came back inside and it's hit or miss...

i personally think that the i870 was always weak in the signal department, but it shouldnt be dropping in and out like you are saying.if your other phone has service the i870 should have signal.

Ok, so I can still take into a the Sprint store even though I got on ebay and have them give it a once over?

as long as the phone hasnt been reported lost or stolen you should be fine.
