$15 media net edge plan on unlocked phone?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I unlocked my new iPhone last night using iLiberty+. Everything is great.

My question is can I sign up for AT&T's $15 Media plan and be ok? Or would I have to sign up for their $35 media PDA plan, and would I then be ok?

I see this question posted all over the internet with no clear answers. I ordered the $15 plan this morning, but could get no clear indication if I was going to get some major charges later on (of course I did not let the customer rep know I was using an iPhone).

BTW, somebody will probably reply and say that I need the $20 plan (the common answer all over the internet). I am NOT activating this phone with Apple and getting the 2-year contract.

My question is does the $15 media plan cover everything when using youtube and Safari? I don't care about text messages.

Thanks,

plarsen111

The $15 Media plan will work fine with the iphone. That's what I'm using. And yes it will cover all data.

Thank you. May I ask how long you have used the $15 plan on your iPhone? I am reading that Apple and/or AT&T are figuring out people are using media net on unlocked iPhones by tracking the IMEI number, and disabling the MEdia Net feature, etc.

I been using it since October of last year.

There is no problem using the $15.

Personally I prefer getting 200 texts and visual voice mail for an additional $5 on the official iphone plan. The 15cent texts can add up quickly.

Actually they are now $0.20 a message, MMS is $0.30.

Before I buy my phone, I wanted to make sure I could do this.

If I were to jailbreak the phone, I can do the $15 Media Net plan and be okay... But can I keep my texting plan too? Right now I have the $5 message starter, plus the $5 m2m texting. All I would have to do is add the $15 Media Net plan, correct? And my texting plan should stay the same?

I've been searching the forums, but can't find exactly what I'm looking for (the media net and texting question). I don't want to pay $30 for the iphone plan for pretty much the same thing I have now.

Just get the $15 media plan, and add a text plan you see fit. I'm using the $15 media plan + $30 unlimited family text. If you don't spoof your IMEI, your MMS messages won't work with SwirlyMMS, and in OLAM your phone will show up as an iPhone.

Do you know if you can still get a corp discount on your account if you do this without spoofing the IMEI?

that's what I'm thinking. the $5/month measly savings isn't worth trying to cheat the system.

and like you said, you do get Visual VoiceMail and 200 messages for the $5. that's definitely worth it.

I would just do that, but I send about 2,000 texts or more a month (all to at&t users), so I'd have to go with the unlimited plan. Right now I pay $10 for 200 + unlimited m2m. I'd have to go with the $40 iPhone plan to be able to do that. I'd love the visual voicemail feature, but it's not worth $30 more...

I think he's trying to avoid getting locked in for 2-years with the ATT iphone contract, not saving $5.
