z6m ringtones

I've been able to get my mp3's as ringtones via p2k.
However when looking through the files on p2k I've seen two;
P2k:/a/motorola/system/tone_association
P2k:/a/motorola/system/tone_association_default
All they list when I view them is;
tone_type00491=tone_type00492=

Does anyone know if these files have anything to do with keeping the phone from allowing you to set your files as ringtones?

They might. You can try editing the values in a program called XVI32 (google it), and seeing if you can get your tones to have the "apply as" option.

Am I the only one who doesn't seem to have any troubles at all with using an MP3 as a ringtone (I'm using an Alltel Z6m)?
I used a very simple procedure:
1. Put MP3 on memory card
2. Copy song to phone memory
3. Set as ringtone (either through the Ring Styles menu, or Apply As in the media viewer, both worked)

I picked up my phone about 1-2 months ago (I don't remember exactly off the top of my head), so is mine just different than everybody else's?
Or do people just feel the need to use their MP3's directly from the memory card? (personally, I find the 13mb of memory more than enough to hold several songs, and quite a few more if you modify the MP3's prior to use as ringtones, as you would never hear the whole song, maybe 30seconds at most)

Or have I completely missed the point entirely?

There was a firmware update released that disabled the apply as ringtone option and getting non-stock ringtones thorough the ring styles menu. You have an older version firmware on your phone that isn't disabled.

Nope. I've got a USCC Z6m and use Bluetooth to push ringtones directly to the phone on OS X 10.5.2. Couldn't be easier.
