I am thinking about switching to at&t because of the rollover mins. and everybody i know almost has at&t. I have verizon and and use bitpim to make ringtones. What I am wanting to know is can you use bitpim on cingular phones to make ringtones, if not then i prolly will stay with verizon..yes ringtones are that big of a deal for me....lol
Thanks

I'm not sure about all the phones but I just stick my ringtones on my memory card and the phone sees them. I believe there is a size limit of 300kb for each ringtone though.
So far this worked on all the Motos (Razr, Krzr, V9), Nokia (N75), Samsung (BJ, BJ2), Blackberry, 8525, 8925, SE w810, w580 that I've tried out.

unlike verizon att doesn't cripple the phone where you need crap like bitpim. Also last I checked bitpim doesnt make ringtones, you just use it to put them into the phone. you just plug the phone into the pc and it will show up as a drive under explorer in most cases.

I am aware that bitpim doesnt make ringtones I may have worded that wrong, but I do edit and create ringtones from my music on the bitpim which in a sense I make ringtones from bitpim. I wasnt sure how cingular worked and that is why I asked

You won't need BitPim anymore. You can make them with any audio editing program, and you can even find them on the internet for free. You can either MMS them to the phone, plug the phone in as mentioned above, purchase a cheap memory card reader, or send them via Bluetooth from other phones, or from a Bluetooth dongle that you install on the computer.
They do need to be 300kb or under for almost all of the new phones. If you purchase an unlocked or unbranded one, any size should work, including entire songs.

Be aware that LG phones are difficult to connect to a PC for any purpose. You would have to email ringtones as MMS messages.

LG Shine connected to my iMac G5 via Bluetooth no problem. So that is always an option if you do not have unlimited MMS.

Ednadeal, thanks for asking that question. I am also with Verizon and my second or third two year contract has just ended and I'm considering switching to ATT because almost everyone I know is on ATT so the M2M will be more useful.
I've been using Bitpim to move ringtones on to my old LG VX8000 phone and want to make sure that any phone I buy can be loaded from my computer and not by having to pay for them. which it sounds like is usually possible with the ATT variety of phones.
My further question is how about photos? I used to use Bitpim to pull pictures off the phone. I'm hoping this is possible. Sounds like it is, but I want to know for sure. I guess it has to do with which phone I get. I want a cheap, simple, rugged, small flip phone. Right now I'm using a tiny LG with a nice retro monotone green screen from about four years ago (the VX8000 has been a bit flakey since it went through the clothes washer). I like the tiny size. Any recommendations for a simple, non-web-browsing phone? (I'm not against web browsing on a phone, I just don't want to pay $10/month to do it. I've got lots of computers to do that.)
