upgrading from 6.0 to 6.1?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: LeMansGTi

to get the upgrade, is it free from microsoft? and above all is 6.0 upgradable?

Posted by: phild4000

It hasnt been released yet. Your best bet in getting the upgrade will be through your carrier and whether or not they decide to offer it.

Posted by: LeMansGTi

ahhh I see.

though if the carrier doesnt offer it, you can still upgrade right?

I believe the answer to this is a bit of a gray area here on hofo. I think it would be via a "cooked" rom. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

What's the difference between the two? Is it really worth the upgrade?

Posted by: LeMansGTi

thats a good question actually, as I havent even looked into what the differences might be.

i use a dash (htc s620/excalibur) and over at xda-developers there are a bunch of 6.1 roms that have been cooked by kavana and remade by rickwyatt. what this means is, there are many versions to choose from (20 - 30 of them). you can get the "vanilla" rom that pretty much has no preinstalled apps all the way up to the roms that have a lot of awesome preinstalled apps (resco explorer, registry editor, omapclock to over clock, office mobile, flash lite etc...). i have been running 6.1 for a few weeks and have tried a few of the roms. i love the speed of the roms. 10 times better, faster, more fun than any rom from the factory. just my .02 . msg me if you have questions.

Has this 6.1 helped with video at all?

in what manner? i was on the HTC wm6 rom before this. i never had problems with the video that i can recall. i watch movies and stuff on the phone daily. what kinda problems are you having? and what software are you using to watch the videos?

so far i am loving 6.1 (using the one of rickwyatts build of the new kavana 6.1 rom) and having no issues with video

gixxum! I updated my Dash to the 6.1 ROM by Kavana. Everything is fantastic except for getting and error message thru ActiveSync. I get:

"The security certificate on the server has expired. Check that the date and time on your device are correct."

Support Code:80072f05

I have checked the date and time and they are correct. I am unable to sync to my company's email and my outlook info.

Any ideas!

I'm using the Kavana 6.1 version and love it so far. I like the touch feature on the jogger pad, and the interface on homescreen, etc...

you need to get the certificates from your job call IT abd ask which ones in settings under security. Also did you set the date and time to correct time zone and make sure to enable autoo config

Wirelessly posted (HTC Wizard: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.11) PPC; 240x320; HTC_P3600i/1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

For the cert issue, log onto OWA and download the certificate from there and then sync it over to your device and see if the issue go away.

well, I dont have the tilt just yet. but one of the things that i have read from others on here is that the video drivers are not the greatest with the tilt.

I should get the phone sometime this week at which point setting it up will be my "homework". haha

how does one go about installing the roms and what not?

is there a write-up somewhere about deleting everything from it and then how to install the rom?

Posted by: Urthwhyte

Installing the ROM is pretty easy as long as you follow all of the instructions provided at xda. I'm not sure of the linking policy, so just google for something along the lines of "HTC Excalibur 6.1 ROM" and you should find the thread with download links and instructions.

Awww, where did you find this out??

Posted by: feezymac

I spent 3 days trying to figure this out, so just posting in case anyone else is still running into it.

My problem was ActiveSync would keep denying me when I try to sync from my Dash (wm6.1) to my company's Exchange 2007 server, even though I could get to the owa page through IE. What worked for me was:

1) Delete the exchange server from ActiveSync
2) Use SSLChainSaver.exe to download my companies certs
3) Attempt to re-add the exchange server in ActiveSync (this still failed telling me the cert was expired and prompting me to update my system clock)
4) Copy the downloaded certs (from SSLChainSaver) to the MyDocuments directory on the dash, then click each one (indicated success for each one)
5) Attempt to sync w/the exchange server again. This time it prompted me for my network credentials and finally sync'd.

I have a buddy on the server team at my company who pulled up my mobile profile in some exchange management tool, and I noticed the timestamp on my last sync was in GMT (which is the default when I installed the 6.1 rom), while I'm in GMT-8. Maybe this has something to do with it? I don't see anywhere else in ActiveSync to force a timezone or anything, seems like a bug in wm6.1 to me.

Posted by: SHoTTa35

that setting is in Date and Time(since Pocket PC 2000 days). You go Settings - date and times and change your timezone. Nothing to do with activesync at all. IF your phone is setup to get the settings from your cell provider then you would get the corrrect info depending on what part of the world you are in (or if you already had that then turn it off cuz their settings are wrong)

I would love to upgrade to the 6.1 ROM. I upgraded to the "official" 6.0 AT&T Rom and have had nothing but trouble.

I used to get 3G just about everywhere (DFW area) and now sometimes it's G. More dropped calls, worse bluetooth reception, etc.

Very disappointed.
