Hi all,
I'm looking for recommendations for a cheap (sub $120), unlocked quadband phone that has a good record of reliability, good reception and speaker quality, and decent battery life (5+ hours talktime?). I will be using this mostly for talking and maybe texting. No other requirements.
I'm looking mostly at the SE Z520a and the Nokia 6085. However, I've read the SE z520a has some issues with reliability - white screen of death and the camera constantly going off in pockets due to poor button placement.
Can anyone give me recommendations between the two, or have another phone that fits my needs? Thanks!

I haven't used the SE model. The Nokia 6085 has great reception, excellent battery life, very durable, and the main screen as well as the keys are very customizable. Pictures are on par with other VGA camera phones. The screen can be hard to read in direct sunlight, not a big deal though. The speaker quality is very good on this phone.

The Motorola vXXX (v400 and v600 come to mind) were great. They were pretty feature-packed when they debuted in late 2003/early 2004, and are probably the last of the good Moto handsets.
My dad and I both had v400s for about 3 years each and they rocked. Very reliable, durable, good call quality, and clean looks. v600/v620/v635 can be had on eBay for <$100.
I still keep one on hand as a spare/backup phone.

you could probably get a used w810 in that price range. some of the older motorola flip phones are also good (like TheGSRGuy mentioned).

Used Nokia 5300, 6133/6126, and 6555b could be had for that price.

I used to be a owner of the z520a, and yes the camera button did go off couple times in my pocket, lol. The phone reset on me twice on my 2 years with it.
The GUI is kinda laggy, other than that, it's a great quad-band phone, it feels quite sturdy too. I wouldn't be afraid of dropping it.
