As I understand this firmware will be a "free" upgrade. Will this be downloadable to all Unlocked & jailbreak devices? I'm considering getting an iphone both unlocked & Jailbroke but will want to take advantage of the "exchange" server abilities of the new release. Does anyone have any thoughts on whether the iphone will have to be officially "activated" to get the upgrade?

The upgrade is free. Heck, it's available now if you know where to look and what you're doing with unlocking.

Whether it would work immediately on existing unlocked iPhones is pure speculation. It might. It might not. No one knows. And even if anyone did "know" today, anything can change in the next 3 months. Apple has 80+ more days of coding and tweaking to do on the final release ... and I bet they're not letting all their security tricks out of the bag just yet.

But I could be wrong.

It may work day #1 on an unlocked iPhone. It might take a week for the dev team to crack it. Or it might take a month. Or even longer.

There's just no way to predict the answer to such questions.

To get the 2.0 firmware when it comes out, it should be as simple as downloading it through itunes as usual. I believe the dev team has said their exploit for what PwnageTool uses is going to be difficult for Apple to fix, at least not any time soon. So I'm thinking that it will be pretty quick that we will be able to upgrade and at least have things working. All it should take is an update for PwnageTool with the proper files needed for it to run. If I'm wrong on this, someone please correct me.
