After DeBranding, signal jumps up and down

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I debranded my new at&t w580i last night, I have since noticed the bars of signal keep jumping climbing up and down, from red to orange to green.

My wife has the same phone (not debranded) and here signal is full, where mine is dancing...

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Flashed with american generic files

i have the same issue, but usually have decent service while its doing that. i mod motorla phones too, and when i unlocked my l2, it did the same thing, but service would still be ok

Well after a day of trying to figure this out, I finally did.

First. After Flashing, make sure you re-remove the battery for 10secs (this helped a little with the bouncy signal meter)

Last. I Went to MENU/SETTINGS/CONNECTIVITY/DATA COMMUNICATIONS/ PREFERRED SERVICE and selected CS ONLY. (This FIXED the bouncy signal)

Hope this helps someone

ummm... your gonna want PS (packet switched).. circuit switched is SLOW...

Slow?

Whats slow...?

I don't use the internet for my phone. Does that matter?

Thanks!

I dont see how PS and CS would even effect signal strength.

but yes CS for data transfer would be ridiculous. Not to mention the fact that your text and mms msgs might have problems in some areas.

Debranding should not have anything to do with signal. Maybe there is an issue with the tower in your area.

if your in the US it should be GSM . 3g would be pointless.

because
CSD is merely 9.6kbps, while PS can bump up to 240kbps max (EDGE)
since you don't use data, just leave it on CS

I am not sure.....band priority
att branded may put 850 >1900, while generic goes opposite way
though it doesn't matter to me (and my S500i does not have signal flucating issue)
maybe your area has both 850 and 1900

more bad days than good here.

Thats the main reason i bought the n95-3 -- for 3g / get away from edge.

just to clarify it should be GSM on that phone in the states because it does not have the correct bands for us 3g.
