I turned on my bluetooth and all it does is search for devices. I have devices that should be found. the phone is only three weeks old straight from att shop

Mine does the same thing. Is it a headset or another phone that you are trying to find?

Posted by: SimTech

remember, headsets only..... no phones...

Posted by: britinusa

ok I was trying to connect to my macbook, I guess you cant send anything by bluetooth, sorry newbie defected from Nokia

Posted by: Heavy Fluid

Yeah, you can't. You can do it via iTunes though. Everything has to be done via iTunes, pics, music, contacts, etc. I am used to using BT like you, but I am getting used to having to dock it everytime I want to add stuff. Oh well.

Is your headset in pairing mode? Press and hold the button on the headset until it starts flashing, then look for it with your phone.

does it not pair with cars? i tried to pair with the bluetooth in the car?

Posted by: SimTech

Yes, it should pair with bluetooth in cars. Any headset / speakerphone type hardware.

Not sure why about your car's BT but you can't use the iPhone to hook to anything but heatsets / speakerphones. Not other phones either.

Is your car bluetooth in pairing setup mode?

Ditto can't find my car kit either (Blaupunkt). Oh yes the car is in pairing mode. Unspeakable words come to mind when I think about the iPhone's Bluetooth interface...

i'm actually having this same problem on a jailbroken 1.1.4 iphone. i'm trying to connect it to my blueant Z9. i put the headset in discoverable, but the iphone doesn't see it. i cleared and reset the BT headset's memory and even paired it again with my SE T650 no problem. the iphone could connect to my Nuvi 660, but it just keeps on searching for the Z9. anyone?

Bottom line: if you're not using your headset or compatible car system with your iPhone, there's no reason to keep Bluetooth turned on since that's the only profile it supports.

If I had to guess why it's not connecting to your car systems, it's probably because the A2DP and/or audio gateway profiles are also needed for the same connection, of which, the iPhone has neither, so it just doesn't find the system at all.

well for mine, the blueant is not an A2DP headset and it connects with all my other devices just fine.

Wow... Why did apple cripple bluetooth to that degree?

To prevent file sharing and protect their royalties.

Posted by: vsc

Yes but Apple went beyond file sharing. In short from what I have seen is that they wrote a lot of the code themselves and it is a mess internally. Yes I started debugging with a Bluetooth analyzer in an attempt to get my car kit working.

That said I found a firmware update for my car kit and it now works with V1.1.4 of the iPhone.
