Help with a new phone please!!!

First post, so be a little kind please!!

I read the reviews, did the research and looked until I was sick of looking at phones before making a decission.
I read all the bad comments on the LG CU575 (trax), about the key pad and calll quality etc. But it seemed durable and it was a love it or hate it phone. I took a chance.
I am not happy with that choice. I actually like the key pad, sounding like you are in a tin can is an understatment, and the signal lacking doesn't even begin to describe this phone!
I got it Friday, went to work Saturday morning, and no signal in the building. I work in diferent metal buildings/warehouses. Ok, I left work and went to call someone, no service? I shut the phone off and back on, it has woked fine since, but I was not happy about this!

I am stuck with AT&T, not really happy with them either, and need to choose from the phones they have available. I do not want to spend over $200 with upgrade on this phone, and I am EXTREMELY hard on phones!!!
I was reccomended in the store a V365 as the most rugged they sell. I have one issued for work, it lacks the signal my V3i got, in fact many times I had to use the V3i to make calls for work when the V365 wouldn't. I cannot get work to up for a decent phone and would like to use the new one soley. I want two sets of contacts, one for work, one for personal, and would like to switch easily between them, with different ring tones, and not have to spend three hours doing this, as I would have with the V3i.
I also want bullet proof reception, PERIOD!!!
When I say I am hard on phones, I mean it! I work maint. for a large company, I am rained on, I get covered in hyd. oil and metal shavings. I crawl in and out of places ost people don't even want to know exist!
Then I cut firewood, trim trees and do handyman work in the little spare time I do have, I am on-call 24/7 as well.
Let you're imagination run wild on what I can do to a phone, and I have probably done it.

I like the Blackerry's, but not sure of the durability. My poor V3i somehow made it two years with me, and I am thinking of a V3xx honestly, but wanting two sets of numbers on a Moto gives me nightmares!!!

Does anybody have any help they can offer?
Confused out of my mind right now! Thank you all

That V3XX blows that V3i out of the water!

My recommendation is as follows:

1.)Get a 3G phone hands down. Qualcom componets work stellar on our handsets (Trax has been phased out of stores for awhile now for a reason)
2.)BUY INSURANCE!!!! That way you don't have to worry what you do to it!
3.)Have a case thats on it all the time and not one you pull out to use phone.
4.)Samsung 3G linup or Nokia 6555 seem to give the best performance for our customers as well does the Moto V9/Z9 but have a price tag that goes with it. I'd advise the Samsung A747 SLM or NOkia 6555.
5.) Nobody can ever tell you they will give you bullet proof signal anywhere and everywhere so your expectations are set to high. Maybe your being sarcastic; however customers think cell service should be perfect. It's still a radio frequency and has troubles penetrating through metal and thick concrete. Best way to solve that issue is get a mobile amplifier or have your company invest in some in building amps. I carry them and can tell you all about them. Great stuff but cost a bit to get what you expect.

Don't know what if any this will help you, but hopefully it gets you somewhere.

1) I'm not sure I am sold on the 3G yet, it seems to eat the power quite a bit more!
And I am figuring out why it has been phased out, but oddly enough my corprate store has them?
2)I've done the math on that, YIKES!!! And then you still have to pay $50 as well?
3)Great advise!!
4)I will look more at those phones. But I am all setup with the mini USB, and was unhappy to see this phone not setup that way, and even more unhappy to see all manufactures going away from it!
5)I get what you are saying, but the best reason I got from the sales guy was that the LG lost the 3G signal for long enough to just shut it down, thats why I had to re-boot it. I call that BS!! If everytime my phone looses reception I have to re-boot it, I'm not interested!!
I am not asking for bulletproof reception, but where I work is less than a qaurter mile from the closest tower. My V365, no signal, walk five feet, signal is fine. No signal, I re-boot itand have two to three bars i the same spot. The V3i always had a signal, and would work!
I NEED a phone that WILL work!!!

Insurance is way cheaper than buying a new phone once your 30 days is up. I don't know how well they described to you the cost of a new phone, but your Trax costs in the mid to upper 200's!! You got it with the contract much cheaper however break your phone in 60 days and your up a creek! $4.99 a month and a one time $50 deductible is way better than paying one time 250 for a phone if not more potentially!

You shouldn't need to power cycle your phone everytime you lose signal; however its something you should do regularly anyways to keep updated and also keep your phone in working order since these phones are so software driven these days more than ever. I'd still check on those 2 phones I mentioned before even though the battery life will be a tad less with the 3G phones than the non 3G phones.

Corporate stores always have stock longer than the SUPER dealers they call them these days since they buy less but rotate more if that makes sence therefore you see COR stores having stock until its sold out. Usually they are found on our website in the same fashion which are sold cheaper to get rid of the stock.

3G is really made for extra feature capability such as high speed internet/video share and so forth but the phones do tend to get better reception as a whole.

Reason vendors are getting away from the mini usb is because the phones are becoming more slim everyday and the port size tends to be to large therefore Moto has gone to the MICRO usb but does come with an adaptor to the mini usb at the moment so you can use you old plugs.

I would also recommend a 3G phone BUT also a BT heaset. so you can protect your phones in your pocket or heavy duty case and still take calls without removing the phone.

(To the OP), if AT&T does work well at your job, the phone will only made a minor difference. Surely some phones get better reception than others, but even a phone that gets stellar reception cannot improve the quality of the network. As to being stuck with a company, weigh the cost between paying for service for 2 years versus the ETF. My point is that if AT&T is not working for you, maybe it's time to consider a different provider.

I have no choice with my work phone. It is company supplied and paid for so it's AT&T all the way.
My wife just re-upped her phone two months ago, so buying out is going to cost a fortune right now. And I live in a rural area, and travel to a lot of rural areas. It's Alltel, I have a better rate plan than they offer, Verizon, I like everything about them except being CDMA, I have gotten spoiled being able to buy unlocked phones and swaping in my SIM and moving on with life! Or AT&T, which used to be Cellular one (GREAT CSR's, good coverage) which got bought out by Cingular, which was really pretty good when they first started then the CSR's got less and less impresive, and corperate started making cut backs, and now AT&T, which you are beter off just doing it online instead of going to the store in person because the employee's are so limited by what they can do, you spend an hour on the phone with corperate doing what the CSR shoud be able to do? And thats not including issues like if they had a bad day, or the managers have them all rilled up so they have an attitude with everyone.
Typical corperation I guess. And I have had more drpped calls in the last two years, then I ever had in the previous ten years!
Now for the inssurance, I won't arge what you are saying, but unlocked phones are found in abundance on evilbay for cheap! And after figuring up that my friend had paid out $508 in insurance, and it would cost him another $50 to get an identical phone that he got for FREE with his upgrade.
I had a Moto V3, maybe two weeks old, I dropped it in a glass of orange juice. It still works, but kills the batery in about two hours.
I got on evilbay and ordered an unlocked but setup fr Cingular V3i for less than what my upgrade had cost me.

Well this was fun!!!
I spent an hour and a half on the phone with AT&T CSR telling them how much I disslike this phone, and why, and the only concern they have is getting me better reception. I DONT LIKE THE PHONE!!! But no, I need to go to the store and get a new SIM card and that will make everything better!!
Still didn't fix that if I turn up the volume loud enough to hear it distorts the callers voice so bad you can't hardly inderstand them, nor does it fix the lousy speaker phone, no even getting into the MP3 player's sound quality!!!
So it's off to evil-bay to find something better. And when I get it, I am going to smash this thing and send it back to them in the box they sent it to me.
